Job Summary
First Call for Help of Itasca County is seeking compassionate and motivated individuals to join our team as a Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) / Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker (MHR) at our Crisis Stabilization Residence – New Leaf Healing Center.
This voluntary program supports individuals experiencing mental health crises by providing a safe, structured, and recovery-oriented environment. Staff in this role will teach, model, and reinforce skills that help guests stabilize symptoms and build a foundation for long-term wellness and independence.
This position offers consistent, year-round scheduling with flexibility and opportunities to pick up additional shifts. On-the-job training is provided, with a clear pathway for Mental Health Rehabilitation Workers to advance to Mental Health Practitioner certification under Minnesota DHS guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services to individuals utilizing Crisis Stabilization Services (may include evenings, weekends, and on-call support)
- Develop, participate in, and facilitate:
- Treatment groups
- Skills training sessions
- Wellness activities including dietary and exercise planning
- Coordinate care with outside providers and make referrals for:
- Mental health services
- Medical care
- Housing and community resources
- Support guests and their families in aftercare planning and community stabilization following discharge
- Complete accurate and timely electronic and manual documentation in compliance with Minnesota DHS licensing standards
- Administer medications as delegated by an RN, Mental Health Care Coordinator, or Treatment Director
- Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR) to document all services provided
- Assist with transportation of guests as needed to support access to care and services
Basic Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to pass Minnesota DHS background study
Preferred Qualifications
- Meets Minnesota DHS qualifications for Mental Health Practitioner (MHP)
- Experience working in mental health, human services, or crisis response
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and de-escalation skills
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed care practices
Pay: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
