**Job Summary**
We are seeking an organized and detail-oriented Academic Advisor to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced office environment and has experience in customer support and administrative tasks.
The Secondary Academic Advisor & International Program Coordinator provides holistic guidance support to students in grades 7–12 while serving as the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for FBCA’s SEVP-certified international student program. This dual role includes college and career counseling, academic advising, and student support—delivered through a gospel-centered lens—as well as the management of all federal compliance and student support systems related to F-1 visa students.
Experience in a Christian School or Educational environment are a plus.
Key Responsibilities
Secondary Guidance Counselor (Grades 7–12)
- Guide students in academic planning, course selection, graduation requirements, and college readiness
- Facilitate Christian worldview conversations around vocation, life calling, and future planning
- Offer counseling related to academic performance, behavior, mental wellness, and spiritual formation
- Organize and lead events such as College Planning Nights, Career Days, and College Fairs
- Support standardized testing coordination (PSAT, SAT, ACT)
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to implement academic interventions and student support plans
- Serve as a resource to students and families navigating dual enrollment or transfer options
International Program Coordinator (PDSO)
- Serve as FBCA’s official liaison with SEVP and manage the SEVIS system
- Maintain compliance with DHS and ICE regulations regarding F-1 visa students
- Issue I-20 forms, verify student eligibility, and provide documentation and reporting
- Design and coordinate onboarding, academic support, and cultural integration plans for international students
- Assist with marketing and recruitment efforts for international student enrollment
- Work with administrative team to ensure international students are included in the spiritual and academic life of the school
Qualifications
Spiritual & Professional Requirements:
- A clear testimony of personal salvation through Jesus Christ
- Active membership in a Bible-believing church and agreement with FBCA’s doctrinal statement and mission
- Heart for Christian education, discipleship, and student mentoring
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency (required to serve as PDSO)
Educational & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in School Counseling, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in secondary education, counseling, or student advising
- Familiarity with college admissions processes, transcript evaluation, and career guidance
- Strong administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail
- Experience working with international students or willingness to be trained in SEVIS
Terms of Employment:
- 10.5-month salaried position with benefits as outlined by FBCA policy
- Evening and weekend responsibilities as required by school programming (e.g., college events, orientation)
- Position includes required training for PDSO certification and annual updates
