Job Title – Media Specialist

Hours: Full-Time, Salary – 10 Month Employee

Reports to: Secondary Principal

Job Summary:

First Baptist Christian Academy is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Media Specialist to serve our K-12 students and faculty by managing and developing a Christ-centered library and media program. This role is essential in supporting instructional goals, fostering a love of reading, promoting research and information literacy skills, and ensuring access to high-quality, age-appropriate, and faith-aligned resources. The Librarian works collaboratively with teachers and administrators to integrate library services into the academic program and to cultivate an environment that supports spiritual, academic, and intellectual growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in library science, Education, or a related field (master's in library/information science preferred).
  • Experience working in a school library or educational setting, preferably within a Christian school environment.
  • Strong knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, research resources, and instructional technology.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to integrate biblical worldview and Christian values into library services and instruction.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith and active involvement in a local church.
  • Be deeply committed to a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ.
  • Follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with student, faculty, parents, and administration.
  • Motivate students to accept God’s gift of salvation and to grow in their faith.
  • Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions towards others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards.
  • Be an active member of a local church. Letter of recommendation from Pastor.
  • Technical Expertise – computer proficiency in a Windows-based environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Library Program Management

  • Organize, manage, and maintain the school library/media center in an orderly, welcoming, and educational environment.
  • Develop and maintain a library collection that supports curriculum goals, student interests, research needs, and biblical values.
  • Evaluate library materials regularly for accuracy, relevance, condition, developmental appropriateness, and alignment with the school’s mission.
  • Maintain an organized cataloging and circulation system for books, media, and digital resources.
  • Oversee inventory procedures and maintain accurate library records.

Instructional Support

  • Teach and reinforce research, information literacy, and digital citizenship skills appropriate to grade levels.
  • Assist students in locating, evaluating, and properly citing information sources.
  • Support faculty with instructional materials, research resources, and technology integration.
  • Collaborate with teachers to strengthen classroom instruction through library and media resources.
  • Promote ethical use of technology and information resources, including instruction regarding plagiarism, copyright, and academic integrity.

Reading and Literacy Promotion

  • Encourage a culture of reading and lifelong learning among students.
  • Recommend books and resources that support student interests, reading development, and curriculum standards.
  • Coordinate reading programs, book fairs, literacy activities, and library events as appropriate.

Technology and Media Support

  • Assist with the organization and management of educational technology resources and media equipment.
  • Support teachers and students with basic instructional technology needs and digital learning tools.
  • Maintain digital resources, online databases, and e-book platforms as assigned.
  • Promote safe and responsible use of technology consistent with school policies.

Accreditation and Compliance

  • Maintain library/media documentation and procedures necessary for accreditation and school improvement processes.
  • Assist administration in evaluating and improving library/media services.
  • Ensure library policies and procedures reflect current educational standards and best practices.
  • Support copyright compliance and acceptable use policies.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with faculty, students, parents, and administration regarding library resources and services.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers to support instructional goals and differentiated learning needs.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and move books, boxes, and instructional materials.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and shelve materials for extended periods.
  • Ability to operate computers and media equipment.

  • Support the school’s statement of faith, mission, and biblical worldview.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
