About this Role
As a Team Leader in Commercial Banking Operations, you will oversee a small team of Commercial Banking Assistants who provide operational and administrative support to the Commercial Banking team, while actively completing similar duties 50% of the time. This role combines leadership, training, and hands-on operational support to ensure high-quality service delivery, accuracy in loan and deposit processing, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. You will collaborate closely with the Commercial Operations Officer, Managing Directors, Relationship Managers and internal departments to support commercial banking operations and drive process improvements.
In this Role You Will
Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor a team of Commercial Banking Assistants, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Allocate tasks and manage workload to ensure timely completion of responsibilities.
- Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, and exceptional client service.
Operational Support & Oversight
- Support Relationship Managers in onboarding loans, documentation gathering, due diligence, loan documentation, closing, credit file maintenance, and account setups and maintenance.
- Ensure team compliance with loan documentation standards, financial reporting requirements, and covenant monitoring.
- Review departmental reports for accuracy and completeness; oversee tracking of loan maturities, exceptions, and past-due items.
- Monitor deposit account setups and servicing to maintain operational integrity.
Client Service & Relationship Support
- Collaborate with Commercial Team members and Treasury Management Officers to ensure seamless client onboarding and servicing.
- Serve as an escalation point for client inquiries and issue resolution.
- Support cross-selling initiatives and refer clients to appropriate services.
Process Improvement & Risk Management
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Commercial Operations Officer on efficiency initiatives, solutions, serve on internal working groups or project teams, and champion roll-out and implementation of process changes.
- Ensure adherence to risk management practices and regulatory compliance requirements.
Qualifications, Competencies and Skills
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial loan administration or similar role.
- Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and banking systems.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
