Summer Camp Mentor – Summer Program Job Description
TITLE: Summer Camp Mentor
DEPARTMENT: Youth Development Department
REPORTS TO: Firm Foundations Leadership Staff
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Summer Camp Mentor for the Kinder Camp (for rising kindergartners) or the iMATTER Girls Empowerment Summer Program (for girls in grades 3rd-5th) serves as a highly energetic and fully engaged member of the Youth Development team and is responsible for delivering a broad range of programs for youth in the Summer Program. The Summer Camp Mentor assist in the planning programming, program implementation and provides a nurturing and enriching program of summer activities in the areas of academic enrichment, personal development, leadership development, recreation, technology, arts/crafts, and college and career readiness.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School diploma or GED and at least two years of verifiable child care or youth development experience in a similar environment required.
2. Experience working with youth in a group setting (an average of 20 youth).
3. Demonstrated ability in planning and actively leading activities for youth.
4. First Aid/CPR Certification (must be obtained immediately upon hire if not current).
5. Reliable transportation to get to work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides leadership to youth engaged in activities and acts as a role-model participant.
2. Consistently arrives to work prepared and ready to actively engage with youth.
3. Shows genuine interest and concern for each youth’s needs and general well being.
4. Leads and oversees assigned group of youth
5. Adheres to Firm Foundations’ policies and procedures.
6. Develops and follows procedures to safeguard the health and safety of youth in the program.
7. Assist with the distribution of meals.
8. Participates in staff training and regular staff meetings.
9. Handles youth disciplinary problems appropriately.
10. Establishes open communication and good rapport with each parent/caregiver.
11. Ensures appropriate data collection and correct record keeping for assigned youth takes place.
12. Assures that the facility is left in a clean, orderly condition.
13. Ensures that there is visual supervision of youth at all times.
14. Works extra hours in emergency situations.
SALARY: 15.00 /hr, Non-Exempt
POSITION TYPE: Seasonal (summer), 30-40 hours/week (Hours available
7:30am-6pm)
