Entry-Level Gas Fireplace Service Technician

$19-$25 per Hour | Full-Time | Summit & Stark County Area

Launch Your Career in a Specialized Skilled Trade

Are you mechanically inclined, enjoy solving problems, and want to build a long-term career in the skilled trades? Do you take pride in quality work and enjoy learning new skills? If so, we'd love to meet you.

Fireplace Mike is one of Northeast Ohio's highest-rated gas fireplace service companies, based in the Portage Lakes area and proudly serving homeowners throughout Summit, Stark, Medina, Portage, and surrounding counties. With 300 five-star Google reviews, we've built our reputation by providing expert workmanship, honest recommendations, and exceptional customer service.

We're looking for an Entry-Level Gas Fireplace Service Technician who is eager to learn a specialized trade and grow into an independent service technician.

This is not a long-term helper position. Our goal is to train motivated team members to confidently service, diagnose, and repair gas fireplaces on their own as they demonstrate the skills, confidence, and judgment needed to provide the level of service our customers expect.

Compensation

  • $19-$25 per hour, based on experience, attitude, work ethic, learning ability, and overall qualifications
  • Performance and advancement opportunities
  • Overtime opportunities during the busy season

Seasonal Schedule

This is a full-time hourly position with a seasonal schedule that fits the fireplace industry.

During the colder months, when homeowners rely on their fireplaces, technicians can expect a full workload of 40 to 60 hours per week, with overtime opportunities available.

During the slower summer season, hours are typically 30 to 40 hours per week, providing a great opportunity to take vacations, spend time with family, enjoy the outdoors, and recharge before the busy season begins again.

Over the course of the year, technicians average approximately 40 hours per week.

What You'll Do

As you complete your training, you'll learn to:

  • Perform annual fireplace maintenance and safety inspections
  • Diagnose and repair gas fireplaces and gas log systems
  • Troubleshoot pilot lights, burners, ignition systems, remotes, and controls
  • Install remotes, accessories, and gas log sets
  • Perform gas leak testing and verify safe operation
  • Explain findings and recommendations to homeowners
  • Complete accurate service notes using a tablet or mobile device
  • Deliver a five-star customer experience on every service call

Types of Fireplaces You'll Learn to Service

  • Direct vent gas fireplaces
  • Vent-free gas fireplaces
  • B-vent gas fireplaces
  • Gas log sets
  • Gas inserts
  • Electronic ignition systems
  • Millivolt and remote control systems

This is a unique opportunity to learn a specialized trade with skills that are always in demand.

What We're Looking For

You do not need previous fireplace experience, but you should be mechanically inclined and have experience, education, or a strong interest in working with tools, equipment, or technical systems.

Helpful backgrounds include:

  • HVAC
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Appliance repair
  • Mechanical repair
  • Generator service
  • Propane or gas systems
  • Automotive repair
  • Construction or maintenance
  • Manufacturing
  • Military mechanical or technical experience

We're looking for someone who:

  • Learns quickly
  • Enjoys solving problems
  • Is mechanically inclined
  • Works well independently
  • Communicates professionally with homeowners
  • Is dependable and shows up ready to work every day
  • Takes pride in producing quality work
  • Wants to build a long-term career, not just find another job

Training and Career Growth

You'll work alongside an experienced technician while learning our systems, procedures, safety standards, and customer service expectations.

Our goal is to help motivated technicians progress quickly and begin handling service calls independently as they demonstrate the skills, confidence, and judgment needed to succeed.

Many technicians continue building their careers by earning NFI Gas Specialist Certification and taking on increasingly advanced service, diagnostic, and installation work.

This is a career path, not a permanent apprentice position.

Why Fireplace Mike?

We're a small, growing company that believes great technicians deserve to work for a company that values their skills.

We provide the tools, training, and support needed to succeed. We invest in our team because our technicians are the foundation of our reputation.
