What You Will Do
Administers nursing care for oncology patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the nursing department and inter disciplinary team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical oncology setting. Assists the Director as needed with accreditation and quality projects, implementation of policies and procedures, employee appraisals, employee discipline, and the staffing schedule.

What You Will Do
Administers nursing care for oncology patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the nursing department and inter disciplinary team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical oncology setting. Assists the Director as needed with accreditation and quality projects, implementation of policies and procedures, employee appraisals, employee discipline, and the staffing schedule.
- Assists the Director with Oncology-specific accreditation requirements for ACOS-CoC, ACR, and QOPI.
- Completes quality studies and improvement projects.
- Performs charge, documentation, and quality audits.
- Assists with EBP changes and policy revisions.
- Performs oncology-specific staff education for radiation and medical oncology (assists both inpatient and outpatient)
- Assists with employee appraisals, employee discipline, and staff schedule.
- Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the medical center and the Cancer Center.
- Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs; sets goals; prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of cancer patients.
- Administers chemotherapy in the outpatient clinic.
- Assists physicians.
- Reports pertinent patient observations and reactions to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.
- Participates in patient care review meetings.
- Handles incoming calls relating to patient care.
- Assists in preparing reports and developing procedures.
- Develops and utilizes teaching programs for patients and families based on their specific need.
- Participates in research activity.
- Provides direct and/or indirect care to cancer patients utilizing Firelands practice standards and evidence-based practice.
- Participates in economical utilization ordering of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Completes patient billing form to facilitate accurate billing.
- Graduate of an accredited course for registered nurses. BSN preferred.
- Current ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy card required.
- Prior background in oncology.
- Current Ohio R.N. license; prefer O.C.N. (Oncology Certified Nurse). If not currently certified, Oncology Nursing Certification must be obtained within 1 year.
- Ability to maintain neat and orderly records, reports and forms.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral instructions.
- Ability to handle difficult telephone and face‑to‑face inquiries.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment.
- Ability to lift immobile patients.
