What You Will Do:

Under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist, and - according to the standard procedures - compounds and prepares for dispensing medications and compounded sterile products including chemotherapeutic and non-chemotherapeutic medications and related pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving orders from physicians or other qualified prescribers; maintains the drug inventory; maintains records; processes patient charge documents and labels; mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique; inspects medication units; and performs various other related duties. Pharmacy technicians do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
- Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified time frame.
- Identifies and fills replacement medications on emergency crash carts, procedural carts and floor stock/automated dispensing cabinets accurately.
- Fills physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts or medication
- Prepares sterile products (mainly chemotherapy) accurately according to USP 797 standards. Must be proficient in mathematics, basic and advanced pharmacy calculations and display essential critical thinking skills.
- Must be a certified pharmacy technician.
- Must maintain competency with regard to oncologic regimens, calculations, medications and sterile technique.
- Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately.
- Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures, and protocols and within specific time frame.
- Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in
- appropriate locations.
- Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.
What You Will Need:
- High School diploma, or equivalent. College courses desirable, but not required.
- Current pharmacy technician certification and Ohio Board of Pharmacy registration required.
- Two years pharmacy technician experience preferred but not required.
- Oncology compounding competence will be demonstrated through the department training program.
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, and work under minimum supervision.
- Ability to be mobile.
- Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified times.
- Ability to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
- Ability to handle frequent interruptions, comprehend complex drug therapies and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
- Punctual attendance at assigned work location is required.
- Successful completion of a ninety (90) day get-acquainted period required.
