Firehawk Aerospace is a leading propulsion-focused aerospace and defense company located in Addison, TX. Our innovative approach empowers us to design and manufacture cutting-edge solid and hybrid rocket motors and engines. We aim to push the boundaries of propulsion technology to serve both commercial and defense sectors.

This position will be full-time located at our Addison, TX facilities with occasional travel potentially required (approximately 10%).

Firehawk Aerospace is seeking a Materials and Process (M&P) Engineer to support the design and development of munitions. The position will report directly to the Design Manager and will support all areas of the organization (Design, Materials sciences, Testing, Manufacturing). The ideal candidate should be an effective communicator who works well in teams and with limited supervision. Should possess broad knowledge and experience with polymer manufacturing processes and process development, materials sciences (chemical / polymer preferred), standard operating procedure development and related operations for design and transition to production efforts. The ideal candidate should be considered a SME or able to grow into a recognized technical lead for at least one of the following sub-disciplines:

  • Material selection for Missile design, development, scale-up, and manufacturing
  • Non-metallic material manufacturing processes
  • Material testing/characterization for structural applications

Responsibilities

  • Includes the evaluation and selection of materials for solutions to technical problems identified during development and manufacturing.
  • Provide technical support to development, testing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Lead the selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis of materials and processes.
  • Analyze existing or planned processes for optimization, changes, and maintenance.
  • Prepare, review, and edit technical documentation such as process specifications, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and the like
  • Collaborate/communicate effectively with stakeholders internal to, and external to, the engineering team.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in processes and methodologies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in: Chemistry, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; Master’s or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (or combination of experience and advanced degree).
  • Familiar with a variety of materials and process engineering disciplines including polymers, composites, adhesives, liners, failure analysis, and manufacturing operations.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings and providing guidance to design, stress, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Strong understanding of materials science.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), meticulous attention to detail, highly motivated, and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with limited oversight.
  • Non-conformance and failure analysis disposition experience.
  • Able to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship as a prerequisite

ITAR Requirements

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit and to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require minimal walking, standing for extended amounts of time, climbing, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat.

Security Clearance

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Requires U.S. Citizenship. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
