About the Project
This role supports a public health outreach and engagement campaign with Whatcom County’s Pollution Identification and Correction (PIC) Program. The goal? To co-create culturally relevant strategies that help Spanish-speaking communities in Whatcom County understand and take action on local water quality and environmental health.
We’re focused on listening, learning, and collaborating—with the people who live this experience every day.
What You’ll Do
As our Community Liaison, you’ll play a vital role in:
- Connecting with Latino/a/x residents across the county—including youth, families, rural residents, farmworkers, and small business owners.
- Gathering insights through community conversations, interviews, and listening sessions.
- Partnering with trusted leaders and organizations to co-create messaging and strategies.
- Supporting culturally relevant workshops, events, and focus groups.
- Reviewing and shaping outreach materials in collaboration with the project team.
- Making sure our messages are clear, inclusive, and truly useful to the community.
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you:
- Are fluent in both Spanish and English.
- Have strong relationships and trust in Whatcom County’s Latino/a/x community.
- Know how to listen deeply and communicate with care.
- Are comfortable working independently and managing a flexible schedule.
- Have basic digital skills (texting, email, Google Docs, etc.).
Bonus points if you’ve worked in outreach, public health, education, or organizing. But most important is your connection to the community and your commitment to helping it thrive.

- Start Date: April 2024
- Hours: 10–20 hours/week, flexible schedule (some evenings/weekends may be needed)
- Duration: Through August 2025
- Location: Whatcom County (hybrid – some in-person work is essential)
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience (1099 contract role)

Many past efforts to reach Latino/a/x communities in Whatcom County haven’t gone far enough. We want to change that—starting with relationships, trust, and real collaboration.
You won’t just be a “translator.” You’ll be a connector, advocate, and cultural guide helping shape something that reflects your community’s values and voice.
