Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic andoperational responsibility for Fire Safe Sonoma’s staff, programs, programmatic and revenueexpansion, and execution of its mission. S/he will bring knowledge of current California wildfireprevention practices and programs, be willing to develop a broad understanding of how FireSafe Sonoma will contribute to and be recognized as the primary source of wildfire publiceducation, manage the countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), and be theCounty’s convenor and collaborator on wildfire prevention and adaptation issues.ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Management:● Design and implement programs, establish program evaluation parameters, and sharedesign responsibility with the community and collaborators;● Establish and carry out public finance and organizational policies and proceduresnecessary to effectively conduct the work of Fire Safe Sonoma;● Identify, track and expand fundraising opportunities for the organization;● Establish, refine and maintain internal and external communications policies, programsand systems;● Design programs to actively engage and energize Fire Safe Sonoma staff, volunteers,board members, event organizers, partnering organizations and current and potentialfunding sources;● Help develop, maintain and support a strong board of directors; serve as an ex-officio ofcommittees, encourage and build strategic board involvement for ongoing localoperations as well as for regional visibility and expansion of awareness;● Prepare and recommend well-reasoned and achievable timelines and identify and getBoard authorization for resources needed to achieve the strategic goals;● Establish personnel policies and supervise staff, develop and retain qualified andtalented staff to assist with carrying out the Board’s direction; and● Establish and ensure effective systems to track progress, regularly evaluate programcomponents, and measure activities identifying progress and needed improvements thatcan be effectively communicated to the board, funding sources and constituents.Fundraising & Communications:● Expand sources of local and regional revenue, explore local, regional, state and nationalprivate and public funding opportunities to support existing program operations and allowfor expansion of services and programs; and● Clarify, focus and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence to externalrelations with the goal of creating a stronger brand and build awareness● Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunitiesPartnerships:● Build new partnerships and expand/strengthen existing partnerships, establishingrelationships with funders and political and community leaders with each contact; and● Serve as an external local and regional presence who publishes and communicatesprogram results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model forregional replication.QualificationsThe ED will be thoroughly committed to Fire Safe Sonoma’s mission. Candidates should haveproven administrative skills, leadership, coaching and relationship management experience.Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include:● A combination of higher-level education and demonstrable senior managementexperience;● A track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling aperformance- and outcomes-based organization and staff;● A demonstrated ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operatedstrategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth;● A positive and focused commitment to quality programs and data-driven programevaluation;● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, anddevelop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage abudget;● Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate and encourageproductive board member relationships;● Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engagediverse stakeholders and cultures;● Strong written and verbal communication skills;● An ability to persuasively and passionately communicate exhibiting excellentinterpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills;● Offer an action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach tobusiness planning; and● Reflect the ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of peopleCompany DescriptionFire Safe Sonoma is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to increase awareness of wildfireissues in our county, and to help residents, property owners and fire suppression and preventionagencies achieve wildfire adaptation leading to safer communities.Formed in 1998, Fire Safe Sonoma has been educating residents and property owners aboutwildfire prevention and safety, especially through distribution of their publication “Ready, Set,Go.” Fire Safe Sonoma acts as a liaison between local communities and agencies, activelyseeks grant funding for wildfire related projects, and manages grant programs
