Job Title: Fiber Splicer I

Reports To: Project Manager
Job Summary: This position is responsible for the maintenance and installation of new and existing fiber in an inside and outside plant environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparefiber cable into new or existing splice enclosure, tray, and splice fiber optic cable, to include single fiber and up to 12-count fiber
- Splice fiber via mechanical or fusion methods
- Identifyand accessfibers in an existingsplice enclosure
- Installtermination panelson customer premiseas well asfiber terminals inanenvironmental cabinet and/or underground vault
- Complete testing and turn-ups of subscribercircuits
- Complete power meter testing
- Completetherequiredclose outdocumentationfor all splice locations
- Secure Company and customerissued assets and equipment in a safe manner at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Education: High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
Experience:
- Six months toone-yearexperienceoperatingand using fiber optic splice equipment
- Basic knowledge of fiber optic theory which includes fiber loss, connector types,and thedifferent typesof fibers
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)preferred
Technical Skills:
- Computer and Microsoft Officeproficiency
- Ability toutilizea smart phone
- Ability to splice loose tube fiber
- Abilityto read splicing matrix and design drawings
- Ability tooperatea bucket truckpreferred
Soft Skills:
- Ability to read,comprehend, and carry out instructions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to detect errors,determinecauses, and make corrections as appropriate
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
- Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs.; includes body weight, equipment,toolsand boxes
- Ability to climb and work at elevations exceeding 18 feet
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Abilityto stand forlong periodsof time on varied surfaces
- Ability to workoutdoors in all types of weather
- May berequiredto work long and unpredictable hours, including occasional overnightand weekend work
- Ability to travel up to 100% of the time, including shortnoticetravel. Travel includes local site travel or national travel depending on business needs
