What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linux Systems Engineer position at Fintal Partners?
We’re looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to build, tune, and support ultra-low-latency infrastructure for high-frequency trading systems. You’ll work across engineering, trading, and networking teams to ensure maximum performance and reliability where microseconds matter.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, optimize, and maintain Linux trading servers (kernel tuning, CPU isolation, NIC optimization, BIOS/UEFI tuning).
- Improve system determinism through low-latency kernel features and advanced performance tuning.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and monitoring using tools like Ansible or similar.
- Troubleshoot system issues in live trading environments with precision and speed.
- Collaborate with network and hardware engineers on server architecture, co-lo deployments, and performance testing.
Required Skills
- Strong expertise in Linux internals (networking stack, memory, scheduling, interrupts).
- Proven low-latency or high-performance systems experience.
- Skilled with performance tools (perf, eBPF, tcpdump, etc.) and scripting (Bash/Python).
- Strong hardware awareness (NUMA, CPU pinning, NIC technologies).
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with kernel bypass tech (Solarflare/OpenOnload, VMA, DPDK).
- Understanding of market data feeds or FPGA-accelerated environments.
Attributes
- Detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and highly analytical.
- Clear communicator and proactive problem solver.
