The engineer partners with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, and Quality to ensure stable, compliant, and optimized production.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Process Ownership
- Reaction operations — batch sequencing, heat‑transfer control, agitation, charging, venting, and safe operating limits.
- Solids handling systems — grinding, milling, screening, blending, drying, conveying, packaging.
- Own process documentation, including PFDs, P&IDs, operating envelopes, and SOPs, transfer packages, creating batch sheets and writing project reports.
- Lead root cause investigations for downtime, quality deviations, and safety events.
- Develop and maintain process KPIs (yield, throughput, cycle time, OEE, energy use).
- Work with TCEQ or other regulatory agencies as needed
Safety, Compliance & Mechanical Integrity
- Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA, and internal Finoric standards.
- Conduct PHA participation, MOC reviews, and pre‑startup safety checks.
- Support dust hazard analysis (DHA) and implement dust mitigation strategies.
- Partner with Maintenance on mechanical integrity for dust collectors, grinders, conveyors, reactors, and thermal systems.
Continuous Improvement & Optimization
- Identify and execute throughput, yield, and cost‑reduction projects.
- Optimize dust collection performance, airflows, duct design, and filter life.
- Improve material flow throughout the process to reduce waste
- Lead scale‑up of new products from lab/pilot to full production.
- Support automation upgrades, instrumentation improvements, and controls tuning.
- Support technical innovation efforts to explore new manufacturing technologies.
Cross‑Site Technical Support
- Provide technical coverage for remote blending and rolling‑yard operations.
- Standardize procedures, quality checks, and equipment settings.
- Train operators and supervisors on process fundamentals and troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 7 years in solids handling, powder processing, or reaction operations.
- Strong experience with blenders, grinders, mills, blenders, dryers, conveyors, feeders, dust collection, airflow balancing, and packaging lines.
- Demonstrated ability to lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Proficiency with P&IDs, PFDs, and process calculations (heat transfer, mass balance, airflow).
- Understanding of PSM, MOC, PHA, and industrial safety systems.
- Onsite role: M-F 8 to 5pm Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and possible after hours or weekends when needed.
Preferred Experience
- Chemical manufacturing in batch or specialty chemicals.
- Experience with solids reactor operations, agitation, heat‑transfer systems, and venting.
- Familiarity with automation/controls (PLC, SCADA, instrumentation).
- Experience with material flow aids, hopper design, and bulk solids behavior.
- Six Sigma, Lean, or formal CI training.
- Owns the process like a mini‑plant manager.
- Anticipates problems before they occur and builds robust operating envelopes.
- Communicates clearly with operators and leadership.
- Balances safety, quality, throughput, and cost without shortcuts.
- Delivers measurable improvements every quarter.
- Can-do attitude and ability to multitask.
