Job Summary:
The Lowboy/Truck Driver is responsible for operating a truck & trailer for transportation of construction material and equipment. In this position, the Driver will load construction equipment (may include but are not limited to: front end loader, paving equipment, tanks, roller, dozer, excavator, oversized loads) onto trailer and transport to various sites to include Virginia, Maryland and Washington D C. This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of equipment/trucks. Trucks are weighted between 80,000 -110,000 Heavy Loads.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines and company policies
- Obey applicable laws and follow dispatch instructions
- Maintain daily vehicle logs
- Monitor various gauges during operation of vehicle
- Load and unload equipment or materials
- Thorough operational knowledge and skills of trucks and related equipment to be operated
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times
- Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required
- Must keep truck in a clean and orderly condition
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Able to work in all weather conditions
- Perform general labor duties when necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes):
- Experienced drivers for tractor/trailer. Class A CDL with doubles, triples endorsement and experience required with good driving record
- MUST have 3 years previous experience with heavy haul oversized equipment
- Pass DOT pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
- Be willing to work holidays, weekends and overtime as needed.
Physical and Environmental Specific Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
- Physical ability to lift and carry 50 lbs of materials
- Manual dexterity and strength sufficient enough to enter information via computer keyboard for long periods of time, to write notes and information needed, and to pick up and hold paperwork, supplies and other items.
- Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to effectively communicate.
Education and Training:
- Class A CDL
- Clean driving record
- Hazmat and Tanker endorsement a plus but not required
