Job Summary

Asphalt Foremen oversee construction projects from beginning to end and coordinate workers. Responsibilities are guiding staff, supervising Asphalt installation, assigning tasks, preventing occupational hazards, and keeping records. Asphalt Foreman need to demonstrate technical skills, managerial abilities, attention to details, stamina, basic computer operation knowledge, and teamwork. The Asphalt Foreman assists construction crew members with Asphalt construction projects and provides supervision to ensure a project’s success. This role fits someone with leadership skills, initiative, and prior experience installing Asphalt.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Asphalt Foreman is responsible for the supervision of asphalt crew as well as provide direction, training, and assistance to the crew.
  • Work closely with the Superintendent to supervise and motivate teams, ensuring adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to coordinate the activities of the work crew.
  • Communicate regularly with the Superintendent to discuss schedule and production needs.
  • Oversee the execution of work to ensure that field personnel are scheduled and complete the job within contract/job specifications.
  • Operate equipment, machinery, and other tools in compliance with safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and safety requirements.
  • Maintain a clean job site by picking up tools and equipment and securing the area daily.
  • Support the implementation of safety policies and procedures, working closely with the Superintendent to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Maintains safety as top priority in accordance with company safety rules.
  • Notify the maintenance department of equipment problems promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of crew hours and material, trucking etc.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure workmanship and materials meet specified standards.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to identify and resolve challenges promptly.
  • Report any project deviations, delays, or issues to the Superintendent and contribute to developing solutions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes)

  • 3 years asphalt experience
  • Must be able to communicate in English and Spanish
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work under limited supervision.
  • Ability to work well with crews, team members or inspectors while managing stressful situations in changing environments.
  • Knowledge of grade and slope control.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer skills are required.
  • 2 years of materials, methods, maintenance and operation of some equipment required with an emphasis on asphalt and paving.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required (those not having this credential must certify or be enrolled in a certification course within 12 months of hire/promotion)
