FJA are working in partnership with a major water utilities company to recruit experienced Leakage Technicians to support day-to-day leak detection operations. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals with experience in leakage detection, network operations, or water utilities who are looking to build a long-term career within the clean water network. As a skilled Leakage Technician, you’ll work across the clean water network carrying out field-based investigations to identify and reduce leakage. You’ll be part of a structured field team, conducting step tests, operating valves and hydrants, and using flow/pressure data to support leakage reduction and regulatory performance targets.
Working hours: Please note that the role will be covering nights or split shifts.

Key Responsibilities As a Leakage Technician
- Carry out step tests to isolate network sections and identify leakage
- Operate valves, hydrants, boundary points and other network assets safely
- Use flow and pressure data to pinpoint potential leakage areas
- Conduct on-site investigations and support wider leakage reduction activities
- Work closely with leakage analysts and control room teams to validate findings
- Record all field activity using handheld devices and internal reporting systems
- Submit accurate job notes, test results and site information
- Follow all Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments and safe dig practices
- Represent the business professionally when working in residential or public areas
- Communicate clearly with customers when required (e.g., access, noise, disruption)
- Experience in leakage detection, step testing, network operations or water utilities
- Confident operating valves, hydrants and other network assets
- Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to work independently and as part of a field-based team
- Good communication skills and a professional approach
- IT literate with the ability to use handheld devices and reporting systems
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Knowledge of DMA structure, flow/pressure behaviour and network hydraulics
- Previous experience in water distribution or leakage detection
- Utilities certifications such as NRSWA, EUSR or Water Hygiene (advantageous)
- Full training on client systems, equipment and network procedures
- Support from experienced Team Leaders and Leakage Specialists
