Overview:

  • As a Long-Term Care Registered Nurse (RN) at the Finger Lakes VA Healthcare System you will play a vital role in providing top-tier nursing care to our veteran residents. You will join a multidisciplinary team committed to holistic, patient-centered care, ensuring that every veteran receives the dignity and respect they deserve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient-Centered Care:
  • Perform thorough assessments, create personalized care plans, and deliver compassionate nursing interventions.
  • Administer medications and treatments with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Monitor health status changes, promptly addressing any concerns.
  • Offer specialized care, including wound management and catheter care.
  • Collaborative Excellence:
  • Actively engage with physicians, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team collaboration to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Facilitate clear and empathetic communication between residents, their families, care providers, and the healthcare team.
  • Education and Support:
  • Educate residents, their care providers and families on health conditions, medications, and self-care strategies.
  • Provide emotional and psychological support, fostering a positive environment for residents and their families.
  • Compliance and Safety:
  • Ensure adherence to VA policies, state and federal regulations, and best nursing practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and uphold rigorous infection control standards.
  • Professional Development:
  • Pursue continuous learning opportunities to stay abreast of innovations in nursing and long-term care.
  • Mentor new nursing staff, sharing your knowledge and expertise to support their development.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of graduation.
  • Licensure: An active, current, full and unrestricted RN license to practice in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C 7403(f)
  • Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and relevant healthcare software.

Physical Requirements:

  • A pre-employment physical evaluation is required.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
