The Associate Provost of Academic Innovation and Learning Resources serves as a senior academic leader responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning across the Academic and Student Affairs (ASA) Division. This position provides strategic leadership for instructional innovation, instructional delivery modalities, academic technology and artificial intelligence governance, library and learning resources, academic support services, and a comprehensive professional learning ecosystem serving ASA employees.

Working in collaboration with academic leadership, faculty, and shared governance bodies, the Associate Provost ensures coherence across instructional modalities, digital learning strategy, and ASA professional learning initiatives. The position advances evidence-based teaching practices, strengthens academic infrastructure, and supports continuous improvement in student success, retention, completion, and equity.

This role advances the Academic and Student Affairs Division’s commitment to integrated learning pathways, experiential education, and partnerships that promote student success, community engagement, and regional vitality.

As a key member of the Academic and Student Affairs leadership team, the Associate Provost contributes to divisional and institutional strategy, fostering innovation and cross-college collaboration that advances the College’s mission and strategic priorities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  1. Develops and implements a strategic vision for academic innovation and learning resources aligned with the College’s mission, strategic priorities, and Academic and Student Affairs goals.

  2. Serves as a principal advisor to the Provost on matters related to instructional innovation, instructional modalities, academic technology, library services, academic support services, and professional learning.

  3. Establishes measurable goals, performance indicators, and assessment frameworks to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of innovation initiatives and learning resources.

  4. Aligns divisional resources and budgets with institutional priorities related to teaching excellence, accessibility, and student success.

  5. Provides regular reports to the Provost regarding participation, outcomes, and institutional impact of major initiatives.

  6. Supervises, evaluates, and develops leadership staff responsible for online learning, library and learning resources, and professional learning initiatives.

  7. Promotes equity, accessibility, and inclusive excellence in teaching, learning, and resource allocation.

  8. Collaborates within shared governance structures to support innovation while respecting faculty authority over curriculum.

Instructional Modalities and Digital Learning

  1. Provides strategic oversight of the College’s instructional delivery ecosystem across all modalities—including face-to-face, asynchronous online, synchronous online, combined online, hybrid, HyFlex, live dual delivery, and emerging models—to ensure high standards of instructional quality, accessibility, and student engagement.

  2. Leads the development and implementation of sustainable course quality improvement processes supporting excellence across instructional modalities.

  3. Develops institutional policies, standards, and best practices related to course design, accessibility, and instructional effectiveness.

  4. Promotes the use of institutional data to evaluate student engagement, learning outcomes, and persistence across modalities.

  5. Collaborates with information technology and instructional design teams to ensure effective and reliable digital learning environments.

Academic Technology and Artificial Intelligence

  1. Leads the strategic integration of academic technologies that support effective teaching and learning.

  2. Develops and implements institutional policies and governance frameworks for the ethical, transparent, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.

  3. Partners with academic departments and technology professionals to support effective adoption of instructional technologies.

  4. Evaluates emerging technologies and assesses their potential impact on instructional practices and student learning.

Library and Academic Support Services

  1. Provides strategic leadership for the College’s library and learning resources to support teaching, learning, and scholarly engagement.

  2. Expands access to digital collections, research databases, and open educational resources.

  3. Fosters collaboration between library professionals and academic departments to strengthen information literacy and research skills.

  4. Provides executive oversight of academic support services, including tutoring and learning assistance programs.

  5. Promotes data-informed strategies to assess and strengthen the effectiveness of academic support services in improving student learning outcomes and persistence.

Professional Learning for Academic and Student Affairs Employees

  1. Provides strategic leadership for a comprehensive professional learning ecosystem serving employees within the Academic and Student Affairs Division.

  2. Develops and sustains programmatic strategies for year-round ASA professional learning initiatives that support teaching excellence, academic advising, and student support practices.

  3. Leads Opening Days for the FLCC community and other initiatives that support ASA-specific knowledge and skill development.

  4. Collaborates with partners across the College—including the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Assessment, Planning, and Continuous Improvement—to align ASA professional learning initiatives with institutional assessment and improvement priorities.

  5. Stewards resources to ensure the sustainability, scalability, and long-term impact of ASA professional learning initiatives.

  6. Assesses and reports on the effectiveness of ASA employee professional learning initiatives in strengthening employee effectiveness and student success outcomes.

Education and Experience

Required

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.

  2. Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in education, training, learning innovation, or a related field.

  3. Teaching experience.

  4. Demonstrated experience leading initiatives related to instructional innovation, academic technology, digital learning environments, or professional learning programs.

  5. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

  6. Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage complex initiatives, and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred

  1. Terminal degree (Ed.D., Ph.D., or equivalent).

  2. Leadership experience in higher education.

  3. Experience working within shared governance and/or unionized environments.

  4. Familiarity with SUNY policies and practices.

Benefits and Salary Range

Applicants receiving benefits through the New York State Retirement System should review state regulations regarding post-retirement employment. This position is not eligible for employment under a Section 211 waiver

  1. The competitive salary range for this position is $103,073 - $127,644 and is commensurate with qualifications
