Position Overview
The Information Technology Instructor provides high-quality instruction to middle school students, focusing on the development of technical skills, digital citizenship, and career readiness. This role transitions students from foundational applications in 6th grade to the state-aligned career technology course in 7th and 8th grade. The instructor will foster a safe, engaging environment where students explore IT career pathways, AI ethics, and hardware fundamentals, ensuring all learners are prepared for postsecondary success in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction aligned to state CTE content standards and district curriculum
- Direct students in the use of the Google Suite for Education, Microsoft, or other software platforms, emphasizing efficient workflow and professional communication.
- Facilitate evidence-based discussions and projects regarding AI ethics, general AI utility, and digital citizenship to build responsible digital leaders.
- Support student awareness of IT career clusters and the transition to advanced technical coursework.
- Develop lesson plans that incorporate hands-on learning, problem-solving, and real-world applications appropriate for a school setting
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, responsibility, and respect
- Assess and monitor student progress; maintain accurate grades and records in accordance with district policies
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English learners
- Maintain classroom/lab organization and ensure safe use of equipment and materials in accordance with school and state guidelines
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and school staff regarding student progress and expectations
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and other staff to support student success and program development
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and district initiatives
- Fulfill all responsibilities related to student supervision, including assigned duties
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Technology, or a related field.
- Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for middle school (Grades 4–9 or equivalent) with appropriate CTE certification (or ability to obtain)
- Knowledge of technology content and middle school instructional practices.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Effective classroom management and organizational skills.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered learning.
Preferred
- Experience teaching in a middle or high school setting
- Industry experience in a technology-related field
- Experience integrating instructional technology into the classroom
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the school day
- Ability to sit, bend, kneel, and reach as needed in a classroom/lab environment
- Ability to lift and move instructional materials and equipment up to 40–50 pounds
- Ability to actively monitor and supervise students in a classroom or lab setting
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a school classroom and/or technology lab environment
- Regular interaction with students in a structured school setting
- Exposure to typical classroom and lab noise levels
- Adherence to the school calendar, daily schedule, and district policies
- Occasional supervision of students during school events, field experiences, or extracurricular activities
- Work may include collaboration with other educators and participation in school-based initiatives
