Findlay City Schools is seeking an engaging and student-focused High School Science Teacher to inspire learners in grades 9–12. Under the leadership of the building principal, you will help students develop scientific literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for college, careers, and life beyond high school.
As a member of our educational team, you will deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction while fostering a classroom culture grounded in Excellence, Opportunity, and Belonging. You will empower students to explore scientific concepts through inquiry, experimentation, and real-world applications.
Essential Functions
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in high school science courses (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or other assigned courses).
- Implement district-approved curriculum aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards for Science.
- Promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and application of the scientific method.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, English learners, and advanced students.
- Integrate laboratory activities, experiments, and technology to enhance learning and engagement.
- Use formative and summative assessments to monitor progress and adjust instruction to maximize student growth.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom and laboratory environment.
- Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress.
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic performance and goals.
- Collaborate with department members, intervention specialists, and support staff to support student achievement.
- Participate in professional development, department meetings, and school initiatives.
- Support and enforce school and district policies and procedures.
Additional Duties
- Serve as an advisor, club sponsor, or extracurricular mentor as assigned.
- Support school-wide STEM initiatives, science fairs, or enrichment opportunities.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or district administration.
- Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of secondary science content, laboratory procedures, and best instructional practices.
- Ability to use data to inform instruction and drive student growth.
- Skill in differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, and classroom/lab management.
- Proficiency with instructional technology, lab equipment, and digital learning tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Commitment to inclusive practices and culturally responsive teaching.
- Dedication to professional growth and collaboration.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Science Education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Ohio teaching license appropriate for high school science (Grades 7–12 or equivalent).
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience teaching high school science preferred.
- Background in STEM, lab instruction, or advanced science coursework preferred.
