What are the responsibilities and job description for the One-on-One Caregiver & Family Support position at Finding Trusted Care?
We are looking for a warm, patient, energetic, and dependable caregiver to support a wonderful family with a 7-year-old child and a 7-month-old baby.
This is a hands-on caregiving role that requires someone who is comfortable providing close supervision, frequent redirection, communication support, and plenty of engaging activities. The ideal caregiver will be attentive, patient, and able to keep up with an active child while also helping care for the baby.
About the Children
The 7-year-old is a sweet, affectionate child who enjoys movement, play, and being around others. He is nonverbal and communicates primarily through sounds and facial expressions. He has limited safety awareness and may explore, climb, drop to the floor, or put objects in his mouth, so he requires consistent supervision, redirection, and support throughout the day.
The family also has a 7-month-old baby who will need age-appropriate care and attention.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, hands-on care and supervision for both children
- Engage the children in age-appropriate play, activities, and entertainment
- Provide frequent redirection and help maintain a safe environment
- Support the 7-year-old with communication and social interaction
- Monitor closely for mouthing, climbing, exploring, and other safety concerns
- Diapering and toileting support
- Feed and assist with meals/snacks
- Provide infant care, including feeding, diapering, and age-appropriate play
- Potentially assist with school pickup and transportation
- Accompany the family on occasional outings or trips when needed
- Provide occasional support during Birmingham hospital visits
- Help with light household tasks related to the children and supporting Mom, such as starting laundry or emptying the dishwasher
Schedule
The schedule is expected to be primarily Monday–Wednesday–Friday, with shifts generally falling in the afternoon, although exact hours may vary based on the children's schedules and family needs.
Occasional weekend or date-night support may also be available.
We're Looking For Someone Who Is:
- Warm, patient, and genuinely enjoys working with children

- Able to recognize and respond to nonverbal communication
- Comfortable working closely with parents and following their guidance

Experience working with children with developmental differences, autism, communication delays, or higher support needs is a plus, but we are primarily looking for someone who is compassionate, responsible, attentive, and ready to be actively involved in the children's care.
