We are a world leader and shipbuilder of choice, constantly evolving to meet global megatrends in tourism, energy, and defense through innovative and competitive maritime solutions.Position SummaryThe Painter II is responsible for providing surface preparation, marine coatings for repairs to ships and boats in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command (MSC), and commercial vessels. This role requires executing and completing work tasks, ensuring quality workmanship, while following the regulatory specifications assigned to each vessel.Essential FunctionsSurface Preparation & Coating Application: Prepare ship surfaces through sandblasting, grinding, sanding, and cleaning, and apply primers, marine coatings (epoxy, polyurethane, anti-fouling, fire-retardant) using spray, roller, or brush techniques.Quality & DocumentationInspect your work to meet shipyard specifications, blueprints, SDS/PDS instructions, and coating thickness/coverage requirements. Document work progress, report any issues with materials, surfaces, or equipment. Monitor and record environmental readings as needed, and address quality or compliance concerns promptly.Safety & Environmental Responsibilities: Follow shipyard safety protocols, including PPE, respirators, ventilation, and confined space procedures, and be cross-trained as a Competent Person and Fire Watch to support overall safety. Adhere to Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO), Work Authorization (WAF), Hot Work procedures, and other regulatory or procedural requirements. Handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely and set up containments with negative ventilation when necessary. Teamwork & Work ManagementWork effectively both independently and as part of a team, providing guidance and mentorship to junior painters. Maintain and set up paint equipment, tools, and work areas in compliance with safety standards.
