Foreman Position
This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating all pipefitting department activities and schedules at our vast, 63-acre facility. Significant heavy manufacturing takes place both in several fab shops, as well as on the waterfront.
Detailed Description:
- Plan and direct work on new construction and repair projects.
- Train and instruct employees on most efficient ways of completing a job.
- Enter time, enforce company policies, and appraise employee performance.
- Serve as a resource to key stakeholders (i.e. crews, leaders, boat reps, senior leadership, etc.).
- Read and interpret blue prints and engineering drawings to determine materials required and task sequences.
- Inspect work progress, equipment, and work sites to ensure that specifications are met.
- Work with purchasing to order parts and materials.
- Responsible for providing onsite direction and leadership for workers within specific guidelines.
- Ability to establish and manage project budgets.
- Attend meetings, identifying conflicts, and resolving problems.
- Promote a positive company image to staff and customers.
- Coordinate pipe spooling, pipe burning, and initiate fabrication operations with the use of hull fabrication schedules, material availability, and engineering information such as diagrams, drawings, and work orders.
- Read and understand Isometric and Orthographic drawings.
- Use C.A.D programs to validate drawings, create pipe spools for new construction, winter work, re powers, scrubber jobs and design pipe spools if necessary when drawings are not available.
- Draw miscellaneous parts requested to be made in fab shop.
- Assist pipe welders with tracking weld joints by location and implement the use of a numbering system.
- Assist lead men with drawings, spool, and material information.
- Assist other departments when structural needs require the use of pipe fabrication.
- Make hull visits to verify drawing information, correct spools, and assist in providing alternate pipe routes when interferences occur.
- Coordinate material handling with pipe shop expeditors as needed by pipe burning machine operators, and fabricators, and record expeditors, and burning machine operators' time on job by contract.
- Use Microsoft Word and Excel software to update pipe metrics for each contract, create miscellaneous shop forms, write memos, and relay pipe cutting information and priorities to the burning machine operator.
- Perform clerical duties such as copying, filing, creating and maintaining department files for drawings, purchase orders, test memos, spooling, and fabrication information.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises 10 to 20 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding's policies, and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- Excellent communication abilities
- Highly accountable
- Read and understand plans and specifications, including one-line diagrams, cable schedules, ladder diagrams, and loop diagrams
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior shipyard experience a plus
- 3 years management experience or commensurate education
- Prior pipefitting apprentice/training is desired
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience using Time and Attendance tracking software
- Journeyman or equivalent certification
- Strong math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)
- Experience with ABS, USCG, NEC, IEEE 45 standards
- Ability to work as a team and individually with a positive and professional attitude
