As the Tax Manager, you will prepare and review tax returns while directing this process, leveraging your support team effectively, and ensuring every engagement is accurate, timely, and complete.

Position Summary
The Tax Manager / Senior Tax Advisor is responsible for preparing and reviewing complex individual and business tax returns while serving as the primary advisor for a portfolio of clients. This role combines technical tax expertise with relationship management, tax planning, workflow leadership, and staff development.
Working alongside junior team members who assist with information gathering and workpaper preparation, the Tax Manager ensures tax engagements are completed efficiently while providing proactive tax insights and practical recommendations that create value beyond tax compliance.
Primary Responsibilities
Client Advisory & Tax Planning
- Manage a portfolio of individual, business, trust, and entity tax clients.
- Build trusted relationships through proactive communication and exceptional client service.
- Provide year-round tax planning and advisory services.
- Identify opportunities to reduce tax liability and improve clients' financial outcomes.
- Research complex tax issues and communicate practical solutions.
Tax Preparation & Review
- Prepare complex federal and multi-state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, corporations, trusts, and fiduciaries.
- Review work prepared by junior staff for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Analyze financial information to identify tax-saving opportunities, planning strategies, and potential risks.
- Communicate tax results and planning recommendations in a clear, practical manner that helps clients make informed business and financial decisions.
- Provide year-round guidance to clients regarding tax law changes, entity structure, estimated tax payments, and business decisions.
- Ensure all returns meet the firm's quality standards while balancing efficiency, accuracy, and exceptional client service.
- Assist with audit preparation and supporting documentation when necessary.
Leadership & Workflow Management
- Lead a collaborative team of junior tax associates and administrative professionals throughout the tax preparation process.
- Delegate work effectively while maintaining accountability for quality and deadlines.
- Mentor and coach developing staff through constructive feedback and technical guidance.
- Coordinate workflow to ensure projects move efficiently from document collection through final delivery.
- Help improve internal processes, efficiency, and client experience.
Operational Excellence
- Protect client confidentiality and maintain the highest ethical standards.
- Participate in continuing education to remain current on tax law and regulatory changes.
- Contribute to firm initiatives and continuously seek opportunities to improve operations.
- Support firm leadership with workflow planning, scheduling, and departmental efficiency.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of five years of recent public accounting tax experience.
- Enrolled Agent (EA); CPA preferred.
- Active PTIN.
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax law.
- Experience preparing complex Forms 1040, including Schedules A, C, D, E, and related filings.
- Experience preparing business returns, including Forms 1120S and 1065.
- Comfortable preparing multi-state tax returns.
- Strong tax research and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy.
Preferred
· Experience with Lacerte Tax Software.
· Experience using workflow and practice management software.
· Knowledge of payroll tax reporting, including Forms 941 and 940 and their relationship to business tax returns.
· Experience mentoring or supervising junior staff.
· Interest in tax planning and advisory services.
Busy Season Expectations
This is a year-round position. While we value work-life balance, public accounting requires flexibility during peak filing periods. Tax Managers are expected to work additional hours during busy season and extension deadlines to ensure exceptional client service and timely completion of engagements. During non-peak periods, schedules are generally more flexible.

Compensation: $72,000–$90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications, plus review commissions, performance incentives, comprehensive benefits, paid continuing education, and significant opportunities for professional growth.
Position will be available immediately to the right candidate(s). Initial pay will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications with opportunity for advancement based on performance, attitude, and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
This position is not a remote. This position is Year-Round Full-Time. Financial Groove office hours are 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
