This is a remote, US based role for an engineer who thrives in fast moving production environments and is excited to work at the intersection of infrastructure, backend systems, data pipelines, and AI enhanced development.
About the Role
Different Day is hiring a Backend DevOps Engineer to build and scale cloud infrastructure and backend systems. You will work across AWS and GCP architecture, data engineering pipelines, CI and CD automation, security, and observability. You will use AI tools to accelerate development and operations.
You will design, deploy, and operate the systems that power AI driven enterprise solutions, including production infrastructure, backend services, automation pipelines, and tooling.
What You Will Build
Cloud and DevOps
• Production infrastructure on AWS or GCP with Kubernetes
• CI and CD pipelines for automated deployment
• Cloud cost optimization, performance tuning, and monitoring
Backend and Data
• Python or Node.js APIs and microservices (REST and GraphQL)
• Data pipelines using Airflow or Prefect across SQL, NoSQL, and data lakes
• ML model deployment and inference workflows
Security and AI
• Logging, monitoring, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch
• Security controls, compliance practices, and secrets management
• Integration of AI coding assistants and LLM powered operational tools
What We Are Looking For
Core Technical Skills
• 3 to 5 or more years of backend development and DevOps experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and or Node.js
• Hands on experience with AWS and or GCP
• Production level Kubernetes and container orchestration
• Experience with CI and CD tools
• SQL and NoSQL database experience
DevOps and SRE Skills
• Monitoring and observability experience
• Incident management and post mortem documentation
• Networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, and CDNs
Development Practices
• Strong Git workflow
• Automated testing experience
• Knowledge of design patterns and best practices
• API design for REST or GraphQL
• Experience with agile development and rapid iteration
Data and Security
• Building data pipelines and ETL workflows
• Data modeling and schema design
• Understanding of security principles and IAM
• Experience with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, GDPR, or HIPAA is a plus
AI and Modern Tooling
• Comfortable using AI coding assistants
• Interest in AI and ML deployment
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar frameworks is a plus
• Curiosity and willingness to experiment with emerging tools
