What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of FP&A and Strategy position at Finance Search Partners, LLC?
We have been retained exclusively to recruit a Director of FP&A and Strategy for a leading California based renewable energy company.
Company
Privately held renewable-energy platform built around ethanol biorefineries. What makes the platform interesting is not just the physical assets; it is that the economics run on one of the most sophisticated value stacks in energy. The plants make the product; the carbon programs make much of the margin.
The company is building a small corporate office in the Conejo Valley, CA to serve as the commercial and financial brain of the platform. This role is the founding hire for that office.
The role
You will be the CEO's commercial and financial right hand. Day to day you will turn two things into decisions: how the plants actually run — yields, mass balance, energy and power use, corn and gas basis — and how the carbon stack actually pays — CI scores, LCFS, RINs, 45Z versus 45Q, the ITC. You will build the models, own the numbers, and sit in the room where capital and commercial calls get made.
Expect real ownership early, and expect to build the role as much as fill it.
What you'll bring
- 8–10 years in finance, commercial, or economics roles, ideally in ethanol or biofuels, renewable natural gas, midstream, refining, or agricultural-commodity merchandising.
- An engineering degree plus an MBA (or equivalent). We want someone who reasons from the plant to the P&L and back.
- Strong bottoms-up, driver-based modeling. You are comfortable with plant economics — yield per bushel, mass balance, BTU and kWh per gallon, basis — and with the carbon-credit stack.
- Commercial judgment first. This is not a technical-accounting, controllership, or pure-reporting role, and it is not a corporate-FP&A polish role. What matters is that you can reason about crush, carbon intensity, and returns.
- A build-it temperament, and willingness to work in-office in the Westlake Village area alongside a small, growing team and a hands-on CEO.
Salary : $180,000 - $195,000
