Paint Line Supervisor Summary:
We are seeking a results-driven Paint Process Supervisor to develop and lead a high-performance team. This role is responsible for overseeing hourly employees in executing process controls to maintain a highly efficient and quality-driven paint operation. The supervisor will champion safety initiatives, enforce company policies, and drive continuous improvement in operations, processes, and product quality. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential to optimize performance, enhance efficiency, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Paint Line Supervisor Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Process & Equipment Optimization
- Lead initiatives to identify and recommend next-generation paint equipment investments.
- Optimize operational footprint, density, and line speed for maximum efficiency.
- Develop and maintain process routings in Bills of Materials (BOMs) to streamline paint operations.
- Monitor and enhance equipment maintenance, including booths, conveyors, curing ovens, and other paint room assets.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce and ensure compliance with all safety policies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and implement injury and accident prevention measures.
Performance & Continuous Improvement
- Develop performance standards and implement strategies to drive 5% annual productivity improvements.
- Reduce scrap, rework, and line downtime while maintaining quality and efficiency.
- Maintain and improve 5S standards to enhance workplace organization and effectiveness.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for paint efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Quality & Standards Compliance
- Ensure all products meet print specifications and industry-quality standards.
- Apply expertise in paint coverage (mill thickness), curing methodologies, and masking techniques.
- Validate paint quality using industry best practices, ensuring adherence to acceptance criteria.
Team Development & Leadership
- Build, train, and retain a stable and skilled workforce while actively working to reduce turnover.
- Ensure all employees receive thorough training on work instructions, equipment, processes, and required documentation.
- Provide coaching and performance feedback, including attendance and disciplinary counseling as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to troubleshoot and enhance paint equipment reliability.
- Stay informed on emerging industry trends and technologies to drive innovation in the paint process.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support plant-wide operational excellence.
Paint Line Supervisor Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Production, or Operations Management preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in powder coat painting processes.
- At least 3 years of experience in a management or supervisory role.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of paint coverage, curing methodologies, and product acceptance criteria.
- Ability to profile parts based on characteristics and curing requirements.
- Experience improving and maintaining line density while ensuring safety and quality.
- Knowledge of masking methodologies and ability to validate paint quality using industry standards.
Paint Line Supervisor Work Environment:
- This position operates in a manufacturing environment with exposure to paint fumes, chemicals, high temperatures, and moving machinery.
- Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respirators, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots is required.
- The role may require extended hours, occasional weekend work, and the ability to respond to production demands in a fast-paced setting.
- Collaboration with other departments, including maintenance, engineering, and quality control, is essential for process improvements and troubleshooting.
