As a key leader reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will secure the resources needed for Filoli to realize its strategic vision: connecting history with a vibrant future. Your expertise will directly fund innovative programs, community outreach, and our major campaign to enhance access to nature. We are looking for someone who excels at setting high goals, creating compelling narratives, and ensuring total accountability.
This is a full-time, hybrid role that offers flexibility, though you must be available for occasional evening and weekend donor and partner events. Depending on candidate experience, the annual salary range is $122,000 to $147,000. This position is eligible for employee benefits: medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, Flex Plan, 401(k) (eligible 1st of the month following the date of hire), vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay.

Key Responsibilities & Impact
Strategy & Leadership
- Design and Lead: Develop a comprehensive partnership strategy to ensure revenue growth, program innovation, and long-term organizational sustainability.
- Align Vision: Collaborate with senior leadership to set priorities, goals, and revenue projections for all institutional giving, directly supporting Filoli’s Strategic Plan.
- Cultivate High-Value Relationships: Manage and nurture a portfolio of existing and prospective foundation, corporate, and government funders with tailored, personalized approaches.
- Own the Narrative: Oversee the development of all funding proposals, including compelling pitches, proposals, and final reports that clearly articulate Filoli's impact and ensure compliance.
- Compliance & Execution: Prepare grant budgets, manage awards, and ensure strict adherence to all grant-related audit and post-award obligations.
- Synthesize Data: Work across the organization (Horticulture, Collections, Marketing, Programs) to gather data, impact metrics, and success stories to craft persuasive fundraising narratives.
- Activate Partnerships: Ensure all partner commitments—from recognition and reporting to program activation—are met in a timely and high-quality manner.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in partnership development, corporate relations, grants, or strategic fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven setting. Proven track record of securing significant institutional gifts is essential.
- Strategic & Analytical Skills: You are results-oriented, highly organized, and use data intentionally to design persuasive narratives and set and meet realistic, ambitious fundraising goals.
- Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to craft proposals, donor correspondence, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Collaborative Leadership: You are a decisive, proactive self-starter who excels at building partnerships with staff, the Board, donors, and the broader community, while upholding our core values of Inclusivity and Collaboration.
- Tech Proficiency: Familiarity with donor management software (Altru, Raiser's Edge) and high proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications.
