Filer Credit Union is seeking a positive, hi-energy and member-focused Member Service Representative/Float Teller to join our financial institution. POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Member Service Representative I/Float Teller Department: Frontline

Classification: Non-exempt

Position Reports To: Member Center Manager at base office

Positions Supervised: N/A

POSITION PURPOSE

The Member Service Representative is a core position and is responsible for delivering quality frontline service to our members through a well-developed knowledge of our Filer Credit Union products and services. Along with the responsibility of ensuring accurate cashiering and transactional services to members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Assumes responsibility of waiting on our members in the following capacity:

a. Great members to credit union in a professional courteous and timely manner.

b. Verify identity of members or shared branch members before any transactions are done or information is given out.

c. Accepts member deposits, verifying cash and checks received, providing receipt to members.

d. Performs member withdrawals, double verifies cash given, providing receipt to members.

e. Makes loan payments for members, ensuring the payments are accurate and satisfy the amount due.

f. Cash checks for members, determining if checks seem suspicious, malicious, or fraudulent and placing the proper holds if necessary. Checking for proper endorsements, signatures, verifying written to numerical amount, and making sure check not stale dated.

g. Process cash advances from credit cards for members.

h. Perform account transfers for members.

i. Redeem savings bonds.

j. Selling gift cards and travel cards.

k. Sell money orders and cashier checks.

l. Detect fraudulent currency and checks effectively.

m. Process night drop deposits and daily mail.

n. Link online banking accounts.

o. Help balance the vault/ATM.

p. On occasion, provides additional support to new hires during training including job shadowing and peer observation.

q. Work between multiple offices during time off/vacations/leave of absences/when needed

r. Any other duties assigned by the manager.

2*. Possesses the following skills and abilities*

a. Must have basic knowledge of office equipment such as computers, calculators, scanners, currency counters, drive-up equipment, ATM machines, vaults combinations, copier, printers, and telephones.

b. Ability to balance teller drawer with accuracy and little to no errors. Recommended that this be done twice a day, lunch break and end of day.

c. Promote credit union products and services to members.

d. Ensure that the teller station is always organized and clean and well stocked with correct forms, brochures, and supplies.

e. Maintain current and up to date comprehensive knowledge on all credit union products and services.

f. Maintain current and up to date knowledge on all credit union policies and procedures, regulations, including robbery and security measures and training.

g. Must be able to work with confidential information and keep it confidential.

h. Must be able to sit, stand and walk as required.

i. Have a patient and empathetic attitude.

j. Strong time management and organizational skills.

k. Must be adaptable and flexible and comfortable working in fast paced environments.

l. Familiar with complex or multi line phone system and phone answering skills.

m. Initiative to learn new tasks and accept new responsibilities.

o. Be a loyal team member who is willing to help others both within the department and in other departments.

3. Credit Union Employee

a. Ensures work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

b. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

c. Assists with promotional activities.

d. Participates in credit union committees and special events.

e. Completes special projects as assigned.

4. Professional Development

  • Network and attend functions outside of credit union.
  • Community involvement.

h. Ensures the Credit Union’s professional reputation is maintained both internally and externally.

i. Represents the Credit Union in contacts with business and trade professionals.

  • Continual training and education.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional ethics and complying with all credit union, Federal and State compliance policies.
  • Attends seminars and online webinars/courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification: High School diploma or GED

Required Knowledge: Knowledge of computers and computer applications.

Familiarity with computers and software programs

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Member satisfaction orientation and cross sale competencies

Ability to work in a goal orientated environment.

Experience Required: Past credit union work experience and member service experience preferred.

Skills/Abilities: Strong communication, problem solving and multitasking skills.

Good project management abilities.

Well organized, and able to meet deadlines.

Able to operate related computer applications and business equipment.

Be nimble to constant change in rules and regulations.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

  • Able to sit/stand/walk as job requires.
  • Exert up to 10lbs of force occasionally with the ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Able to converse with members confidently, adequately, and accurately.
  • Regular and reliable job attendance and punctuality.
  • Weekend work expected.

WORKING CONDITIONS

None: No hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions (such as in a office).

MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions. Able to interpret a variety of technical instructions and can deal with multiple variables.

Mathematics Ability: Ability to compute discount, interest, profit, and loss; commission markup and selling price; and ratio, proportion, and percentage. Able to perform very simple algebra.

Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias. Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis, correct pronunciation (or sign equivalent), and variation in word order using present, perfect, and future tenses.
