Filamatic is seeking a Director of Engineering with outstanding leadership, managerial and machine design skills. Our company designs and manufactures liquid filling machinery systems for the biotech, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and cannabis industries. Our liquid packaging lines typically include bottle unscramblers, liquid fillers, pluggers, cappers, labelers, coders, and inspection systems. Our machines are capable of dispensing from microliters to gallons at speeds up to 250 containers per minute.
We are poised for significant growth and need an engineering department leader to help take advantage of the opportunities that lie ahead.
The Director of Engineering will supervise our team of mechanical, electrical, software and mechatronic engineers. The Director of Engineering will be responsible for the design of standard machines, customized machines, retrofit / upgraded machines, and prototype machines (R&D). The prototype machines are designed and built in the R&D Department, which reports to the Director of Engineering. The Director of Engineering reports to our President / CEO.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead, Manage, and hold team Accountable for delivering against team expectations. (LMA)
- Ensure Engineering is operating as a single team with full alignment, understanding of priorities and expectations (standardization, product development, customer projects) and better leverage knowledge sharing.
- Build curious, problem-solving culture that is willing to commit based on information available.
- Set up and communicate vision, priorities, and best practices to be followed by all.
- Build and develop all engineering team members' capabilities; Identify and develop career paths and succession planning for the team while recognizing technical and administrative shortcomings
- Establish strong communications standards (written and verbal) that will keep team informed, focused, and able to retrieve information quickly and easily.
- Work with the Sales & Marketing team to ensure that our products offer a superior value proposition to our customers, taking into consideration cost and performance.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to provide information, designs, request that maintain high quality standards, meet cost expectations, and keep projects on schedule.
- Ensure that project engineering designs are released on schedule, achieve technical electrical / software specifications (per URS / customer requirements) and materials and labor budgets
- Lead efforts to standardize and value-engineer our product line to minimize cost.
- Fully utilize the Company’s information technology (IT) systems including CAD (Solidworks and Autocad), Microsoft Projects (project management software) and ERP software to improve the operating efficiency of the department.
- Meet department budgets and metrics.
- Monitor, evaluate, and critique designs created by staff members.
Qualifications
- BS in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechatronics engineering.
- MBA preferred
- 5-10 years’ experience managing the design of complex, automated, multifunctional packaging machinery, assembly machinery, industrial machinery, or capital equipment.
- Experience designing machines within budget, on time, and that meet or exceed customer specifications on a timely basis, minimizing need for rework.
- Experience working with CAD (Solidworks, Autocad).
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Lifecyle Management (PLM) software.
- Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience organizing, staffing, and leading a department that produces designs that (1) meet or exceed customer requirements, (2) are released on time, (3) are within design budget, (4) meet total machine cost budgeted.
- Knowledgeable about design for manufacturing principles.
- Knowledgeable about machine shop and machine assembly operations.
- Experience with designing packaging or assembly machinery which incorporates robotics and other state-of-the-art automation.
- Knowledge of Drafting Standards and Tolerancing.
- Experience integrating complimentary machinery from other 3rd party suppliers.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $150,000 – $175,000 per year
Benefits: 3 weeks of annual vacation, 10 paid holidays, 401(k) with company contribution, parental leave, and comprehensive health (3 plan options), dental, and vision coverage. Eligibility for insurance and 401(k) begins the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
