Job Title: Lab Assistant
Classification: Full Time / Part Time (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Director of Brewing Operations, Director of Quality Assurance
JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Lab Assistant is primarily responsible for lab operations (as listed below). This position will require attention to detail to maintain quality standards across all our, and contract customers, brands. Additionally, will be responsible for keeping a safe, clean, environment, assisting with maintenance, reporting, and general operations.

Lab Operations:
- Maintains all quality and safety standards set for beer production at Figueroa Mountain.
- Accurate record keeping of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation, finishing, and packaging in paper logs, spreadsheets, and production software as directed by the Director of Quality Assurance.
- Monitors fermentation by testing gravity, temperature, pH, etc. as required and according to SOP
- Receive, label and log samples through fermentation to finished product
- Count, label, and log yeast samples
- Test finished product for microbial contamination
- Follows SOPs to safely handle chemicals and hoses/vessels under pressure while wearing PPE to collect samples
- Clean and maintain lab and lab equipment
- Communicates any unfinished tasks or needs with Management
- Performs facility-specific duties as required or assigned

Work Environment
The Lab Assistant works in a manufacturing environment with little or no climate control. Some exposure to conditions that are hot, cold, and/or wet may occur. Awareness of your surroundings, personal protective equipment, and proper attire are important to this position.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move cases of beer up to 25 pounds and 50 pound kegs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the morning shift, or 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. for the evening shift. Weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
This Position will not require travel.
Experience/ Education
- At least one year of experience in a similar position in a brewery or manufacturing facility.
- High school diploma or equivalent degree (GED) required.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work
- Must be able to work independently without day to day hands on supervision.

Probationary Period
This position has a 90 probationary period to ascertain the employee can perform the job tasks and descriptions. The position can be terminated at any time if employee does not meet standards to the job description.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
