Position Overview
Fig Tree Montessori is seeking a dedicated and thoughtful Arabic Language Teacher to guide elementary students in developing a meaningful relationship with the Arabic language. This role goes beyond traditional language instruction—fostering comprehension, expression, and connection to Qur’anic Arabic within a Montessori-inspired, child-centered environment. The ideal candidate is warm, reflective, and able to meet children where they are while nurturing a love for language.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach Arabic language to elementary students with a focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Introduce and support understanding of Qur’anic Arabic in age-appropriate and meaningful ways
- Design and adapt curriculum to meet diverse learner needs, honoring different entry points and pacing
- Integrate Montessori principles and elements of self-directed learning into language instruction
- Create engaging, purposeful work that encourages independence and intrinsic motivation
- Foster a classroom environment rooted in respect, adab, and strong student-teacher relationships
- Observe students closely and adjust instruction based on developmental readiness and progress
- Collaborate with classroom guides and staff to ensure alignment with the broader curriculum
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student growth and development
Qualifications
- Experience teaching foreign language to children, preferably in an elementary setting
- Strong proficiency in Arabic, including familiarity with Qur’anic Arabic
- Ability to create and adapt curriculum for a range of learners
- Understanding of, or willingness to learn, Montessori and/or Reggio-inspired approaches
- Appreciation for child-led, self-directed learning environments
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build authentic, respectful relationships with children
- Degree in Foreign Language Education, Arabic, Linguistics, or a related field preferred
