THE POSITION
Reporting organizationally to the Director, Legal US, the Counsel (Manager Level) for FIFA26 will serve as a generalist and be a key member of the FIFA26 Legal team and other key individuals responsible for providing legal advice and guidance on a wide range of legal matters related to the event, including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues. Further, this role will oversee legal documentation, risk assessment, and legal support for various operational aspects of the event.
The main responsibilities and oversights of the Counsel for the FIFA World Cup 26™ include:
· Working with the Senior Legal Counsel, Generalist and Senior Legal Counsel, Events to provide legal advice, guidance, and support on a wide range of legal matters related to the FIFA World Cup 2026 and FIFA Club World Cup 2025 (the Tournaments), including contracts, compliance, intellectual property, and regulatory issues.
· Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating various agreements and contracts.
· Assisting in the negotiation and closure of various venue-specific agreements for the Tournaments, including Training Site Agreements.
· Conducting legal research and analysis to identify and mitigate potential legal risks and provide recommendations to stakeholders.
· Collaborating with internal teams, external counsel, and stakeholders to address legal issues, provide guidance, and resolve disputes, litigation, or claims.
· Staying informed of changes in relevant laws, regulations, and industry practices, and provide proactive advice to ensure ongoing compliance.
· Supporting the legal review and approval process for marketing and promotional materials, ensuring compliance with advertising standards and regulations.
· Assisting with developing and implementing educational materials and training programs for internal and external stakeholders.
· Preparing comprehensive reports for senior management, summarizing legal challenges, legal actions, and future strategies relating to the Tournaments.
· Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel, Director – Legal US, and Senior Legal Counsels.
YOUR PROFILE
Education & Qualifications
• Juris Doctorate Degree
• Enrolled in a State Bar Association in at least 1 U.S. State (Preferably Florida, New York, California, and/or Texas).
Work Experience
• Minimum of 2 years of work experience as an associate or in-house counsel. Experience with a large-scale sports and/or entertainment organization preferred
• In depth understanding of the operations of major events and international projects
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good analytical and organizational skills
• High attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
• Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving abilities
Languages
• Fluent in English
• Spanish and/or French proficiency is a plus
Technology
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio & Project) and planning software and online collaboration tools
