What are the responsibilities and job description for the R&D Engineer position at Field Medical?
Company Overview:
Founded in 2022, Field Medical Inc. is a medical device company advancing next-generation pulsed field ablation (PFA) technologies for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Field Medical's flagship innovation, the FieldForce™ Ablation System, is the first contact force focal PFA catheter system designed specifically for ventricular use. By delivering brief, high-intensity electric fields to target cardiac tissue without thermal damage, the system represents a novel approach to treating some of the most challenging arrhythmias. The company’s proprietary FieldBending™ technology enables precise and large-volume lesion creation, supporting a broad range of electrophysiology applications.
About the Role:
We're looking for a R&D Engineer to join our team and get hands-on with the development of catheter-based medical devices. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers on real projects, building prototypes, designing test fixtures, running mechanical tests, and using SolidWorks to bring ideas to life. You'll learn how medical devices go from concept to reality while contributing to documentation and testing that meets quality and regulatory standards. If you're excited to dive into technical work and grow your engineering skills in a supportive environment, we'd love to hear from you.
Your Responsibilities Will Include:
- Support new product development by building prototypes, conducting feasibility studies, and advancing concepts into functional devices
- Fabricate catheter prototypes using engineering drawings and SolidWorks models
- Design and modify test fixtures to evaluate device performance
- Conduct mechanical tests (tensile, compression, etc.) and document results for design verification protocols
- Create and update CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks, with increasing complexity over time
- Apply basic soldering and assembly techniques, with opportunities to develop these skills further
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with quality system processes (ISO 13485 and FDA requirements)
- Contribute to lab organization and material inventory management
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- 2 years of relevant experience either with medical devices or in the engineering field.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform precise assembly work
- Experience with tensile or mechanical testing (academic or professional)
- Knowledge of working with SolidWorks or similar CAD software as well as interpreting drawings and models
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration
- Sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with catheter or minimally invasive device development is beneficial
- Background in test fixture design and maintenance
