Core Responsibilities
- Psychological Assessment: Administer comprehensive diagnostic testing (e.g., intelligence, achievement, social-emotional, and autism scales) to identify disabilities and determine special education eligibility. [
- Intervention & Counseling: Provide individual or group therapy to help students develop coping skills, manage anger, and navigate crises.
- Behavior Management: Develop and monitor Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
- Consultation: Advise teachers, parents, and administrators on learning strategies, mental health, and inclusive environments.
- Committee Participation: Serve on Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) or Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams to interpret diagnostic findings.
- Education: Minimum of a Master's degree in School Psychology or a closely related field.
- Licensure: Valid LSSP credential issued by the state's board of examiners (e.g., Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists). Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) is also common.
