Director AI/ML & LLM Data Architecture

The Role

As Director AI/ML & LLM Data Architecture within FBT/FIT business unit of Fidelity Investments, you will drive AI/ML technology architecture that enables the data scientists in the development and deployment of AI Algorithms, making it easy for data scientists to focus on model development while the Architecture takes care of all engineering needs for a self-sustained AI Platform.  You will be responsible for drawing up the Architecture to cater to the needs of Analytics, Reporting, Data Science, LLM and any other consumers use cases of the AI/ML Platform. You will work closely with the Data Science community, the enterprise data community, the analysts, enterprise cloud and security teams.  You will partner with the Product Owners, Product Area Leaders and Chapter leaders to define a long-term strategy for the AI Platform.  You will be responsible for the optimized use of cloud services and efficiency drive, run PoC’s on new cloud services as applicable to platform and help increase the speed of deployment for all data science use cases. You will also be encouraged to partner with architecture leaders from across brokerage and partner business units and the enterprise to help influence the broader AI/ML technology community as well as to bring those viewpoints back into FBT.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

• Education – BS or MS is required.
• 10 years of experience in architecting and building distributed data intensive applications and at least 3 years with Cloud database technologies.
• Extensive experience in Feature engineering, Enterprise data lake and AWS Cloud services
• Basic understanding of data scientists needs, basic algorithms and its usage
• Experience with Prompt Engineering, Data Embedding and Large Language Model
• Experience in commercializing ChatGPT or GPT3/4 for business applications
• Hands-on experience in AWS Sagemaker services and Snowflake data environment
• Experience with other AWS serverless, storage and Infrastructure services
• Strong technical leadership and ability to mentor other members within your team.
• Very strong technical capability to learn and adjust to new technologies and Cloud/ML trends.
• Outstanding mentoring and coaching skills and ability to navigate large teams and work as a team player and manage stakeholders.
• Experience with web, event driven, caching, batch architectures, crafting systems for high efficiency, low latency, high availability, and fault tolerance.
• Experience with performance analysis and tuning of large data sets
• Financial industry experience preferred

• Ability to influence  a team of engineers and mentor them on the AI/ML architecture best practices and help the teams adopt the services being created.
• Excellent presentation, documentation, communication and influencing skills, as well as skills which present/influence technology direction in business context to our partners.
• Good leadership skills including stakeholder management, strong sense of working with teams and ability to work in large programs.
• A strong team player who is always willing to use team first approach and build strong relationships with people and work together to achieve the defined the goals.

Fidelity Brokerage Technology (FBT) supports retail, workplace, and institutional customers by providing brokerage, clearing and custody services. FBT customers include investment professionals (e.g. financial advisors, registered investment advisors, institutional investors), businesses, and institutions (e.g. broker-dealers, banks, trusts, and family offices). Fidelity Investments holds $11.1 Trillion in assets under administration (Q2 2021) and its platforms support 3.5 Million total daily trades (Q1 2021).

The FBT Architecture group provides deep technical expertise to the broader FBT Engineering community, delivering solution architecture and data architecture mentorship as well as cross-organization technical architecture guidance (enterprise architecture). Data architecture team is accountable for data architecture of the brokerage and institutional solutions, with an objective to modernize the data platforms, improve and prepare our systems for business growth, increase efficiency with agility and, ultimately, the unlocking of new value for investment professionals, businesses, institutions, and employees.  We strive towards creating systems for gathering the right data and incorporating it fully for operations and analytics to drive the business forward, with best of the breed data solutions to collect, store, and analyze the data, to generate insights.
