The Credit Analyst plays a critical role in the bank’s lending process by providing high-quality underwriting, financial analysis, credit risk assessment, and ongoing loan monitoring. This position partners closely with lenders, loan operations, and senior management to ensure that credit decisions are well-supported, documented, and aligned with the bank’s credit culture and regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Financial Analysis
- Spread and analyze personal, business, and commercial financial statements using bank-approved software and methodologies.
- Conduct thorough credit analysis, including cash flow, global cash flow, collateral evaluation, and risk ratings.
- Prepare written credit memorandums with clear conclusions and recommendations.
- Assess borrower repayment capacity, industry and market conditions, and overall creditworthiness.
Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain and update the bank’s problem loan list, including monitoring trends, updated financials, and risk-rating changes.
- Perform periodic internal reviews of existing credits to ensure ongoing compliance with underwriting standards and policy.
- Track and clear loan agreement exceptions, including financial reporting requirements, insurance, tax returns, and covenants.
- Monitor loan maturities and coordinate with lenders to ensure timely renewals.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure all credit files and underwriting packages are complete, accurate, and compliant with regulatory and internal policy requirements.
- Assist with CECL-related data gathering, collateral valuations, stress testing inputs, and portfolio analytics as assigned.
- Support loan review and audit processes by providing analysis, documentation, and response materials.
Collaboration & Support
- Work directly with lenders to structure credit proposals and identify strengths, weaknesses, and mitigants.
- Serve as a resource for financial statement interpretation and credit policy guidance.
- Provide insights and recommendations to management on credit quality, portfolio trends, and emerging risks.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field.
- Prior experience in credit analysis, lending, bank operations, or accounting preferred.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, cash-flow analysis, and commercial lending principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial spreading tools (or ability to quickly learn bank systems).
