Fibertek is currently seeking a Microelectromechanical Systems Engineer to support our team at the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) in Adelphi, MD. The Microelectromechanical Systems Engineer will provide specialized engineering support in the research, design, and fabrication of Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) devices and novel micro-scale packaging technologies. The MEMS Engineer will work in a cleanroom environment at ARL to advance the design, development, and testing of MEMS-based devices for defense applications.
The MEMS Engineer supports ARL? s Electromagnetic Effects Branch under the VIRTUE program. The role focuses on R&D in MEMS fabrication, additive manufacturing, micro-scale electronics packaging, and micro-scale energetics. Responsibilities include modeling, fabricating, assembling, and testing micro-scale devices using advanced cleanroom processes and ensuring performance under extreme environments.

Essential Job Duties:
- Conduct MEMS device design and simulation for micro-scale sensors and actuators.
- Perform photolithography, deposition, etching, bonding, and thin-film processing in ARL? s cleanroom.
- Lead microfabrication process development and documentation.
- Execute environmental and reliability testing of MEMS devices.
- Support integration and packaging of MEMS into larger electronic systems.
- Collaborate with ARL researchers, chemists, and materials engineers.
- Generate technical reports and maintain experiment logs in accordance with ARL standards.
Experience and Expertise Required:
- Expertise in MEMS fabrication processes, CAD layout design, and cleanroom safety.
- Strong understanding of materials characterization and thin-film deposition methods.
- Familiarity with COMSOL, L-Edit, or equivalent MEMS design software.
- Experience with additive manufacturing and micro-scale assembly techniques.
- Cleanroom experience is highly desired.
- 3 years of experience in MEMS or semiconductor device fabrication, or equivalent laboratory R&D experience in microfabrication.
