FMI's manufacturing facility has been a leading solutions provider of high temperature materials and composites for more than 50 years, serving the Department of Defense and NASA. The focus in Maine is on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) that enable high-temperature components such as: thermal protection systems, re-entry vehicle nose tips as well as rocket motor throats and nozzles.
Our materials are being used on ground-breaking space initiatives such as the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle and the heat shield for NASA's Mars 2020 mission, important missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and as lightweight armor for U.S. military ground vehicles.
Your role: FMI is seeking a dependable, skilled Engineering Technician to join the Manufacturing team. In this role you will be an essential team member responsible for supporting plant engineering projects and our manufacturing processes, including direct support of production equipment. As an Engineering Technician, you will be also be responsible for assisting with specification and the sourcing of new equipment and production hardware, process and equipment evaluation and troubleshooting, inspection of materials, development of manufacturing improvements, and conducting experiments and investigations under the guidance of Engineers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supporting engineering initiatives and manufacturing operations and development processes
- Preparing new equipment for operation and providing support during implementation and initial production
- Working with maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment issues
- Participating in root cause analysis investigations as part of a team
- Following technical direction and communicating results
- Implementing process improvements and contributing to Lean initiatives
- Following all safety practices for handling materials and operating processes
- Operating with a safety-first attitude & being aware of potential hazards and applying proper care and consideration
- Utilizing computer skills such as Microsoft Office
- Using of various forms of PPE will be required at times; cartridge respirator, goggles, visors, gloves, aprons, Tyvek suits, etc.
What we need from you:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2-4 years of work in a manufacturing environment
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to write basic process procedures or instructions
- Basic computer skills; Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook
- Strong work ethic
- Good attention to detail
- Works well individually and as a member of a team
Preferred:
- Associate degree in trade / industrial / engineering discipline, demonstrated progress toward a technical degree or equivalent military experience
- Familiarity, or direct experience with basic machining & fabrication methods, welding, and material handling
- Familiarity with high temperature processing equipment
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles
- Familiarity with industrial electrical and control systems
