The Rig Welder position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by completing high quality welds on various pipe, fittings, and other materials at an assigned job site. The ideal candidate has at least one year of prior experience as a Single Hand Welder, works safe, takes initiative, is organized and detail oriented, and is willing to assist with all assigned project tasks.

Position Description
The Rig Welder position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by completing high quality welds on various pipe, fittings, and other materials at an assigned job site. The ideal candidate has at least one year of prior experience as a Single Hand Welder, works safe, takes initiative, is organized and detail oriented, and is willing to assist with all assigned project tasks.
Essential Responsibilities
- Layout, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers and rulers.
- Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Accurately interpret and apply information from work orders, job orders, specifications, ISO’s, blueprints or other drawings and recognize basic blueprints or symbols for job application.
- Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions.
- Recognize various materials used in the craft and demonstrate a working knowledge of appropriate material handling techniques.
- Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts that might cause warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
- Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notifies Superintendent.
- Perform various manual labor tasks as necessary for the performance of work.
- Proactively identify safety risks and hazards on the job site.
- Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
- Follow project instructions from superintendent and/or foreman.
- Ensure regulated and proper headgear, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn.
- Operate and carry out job duties in accordance with FHG’s Core Values and Code of Ethics.
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
- At least one year of experience as a Welder.
- Experience with 100% travel away from home preferred.
- General knowledge of construction.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills with all levels of management.
- Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in safe rigging practices.
- Possess a valid state or federal ID.
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
- Pass structural weld test.
- Pass FHG-3 and FHG-7 weld tests.
- Pass Class I Fitters test.
