Overview

Position Description

The Welder position plays a critical role in ensuring overall project success by performing high quality welds on an assigned job site. The ideal candidate has the necessary experience and skill to successfully complete stick and flux core welds without direct supervision. The individual works safe, takes initiative, is organized and detail oriented, and is willing to assist with all assigned project tasks.

The following description has been designed to indicate the general nature and essential responsibilities of work performed in this position. It is not a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.

Essential Responsibilities

• Perform quality welds in an efficient manner.
• Ability to perform stick welding and flux core welding
• Connect to leads from welding unit and adjusts amperage and voltage.
• Perform different styles of welding – vertical, horizontal, flat, and overhead welding.
• Perform quality welds while in different physical positions as required by the job – i.e. kneeling and laying down.
• Perform clamping, tack welding, fit-up, heat bending, bolting, or other necessary functions to keep warpage at a minimum.
• Perform work at elevated heights as necessary – climbing ladders and scaffolds.
• Clean up weld splatter and grind as necessary.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, including drills, forklifts, skid loaders and other tools as directed to complete daily tasks.
• Clean and prepare job sites as needed, including erecting scaffolding, removing and properly disposing of debris and waste materials, and digging trenches.
• Performs manual labor tasks as needed for successful project performance.
• Follow all FHG 360 safety policies and procedures, and any client specific safety requirements, on the job site and report violations immediately to superintendent.
• Maintain a safe and clean job site by handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
• Load and unload construction supplies from trucks both manually and with the use of equipment.
• Follow project instructions from superintendent and/or foreman.
• Ensure regulated and proper headgear, gloves, safety glasses, and clothing are worn.
• Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
• Provide assistance to skilled craft workers as needed.
• Operate and carry out job duties in accordance with FHG’s Core Values and Code of Ethics.
  
  

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) preferred.
• Necessary experience to perform quality stick and flux core welding tasks.
• Experience with 100% travel away from home preferred.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills with all levels of management.
• Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.
• Comfortable climbing tall ladders, working at heights, and working in confined spaces.
• Possess a valid state or federal ID.
• Ability to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
• Pass stick and flux core weld tests.
