Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using equipment like Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices.
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring accurate documentation in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, including memory care techniques and behavioral health management.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, phlebotomy preparation, and aseptic techniques in various clinical settings like ICU, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or surgical units.
- Maintain a safe environment by following infection control protocols for infectious disease care and practicing proper hand hygiene and aseptic techniques.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in acute care, post-acute settings, or outpatient clinics to ensure comprehensive patient service and support recovery goals.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with disabilities, developmental delays, or behavioral health needs across settings such as long-term care or community programs.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) procedures essential for patient safety.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and record keeping.
- Strong caregiving skills demonstrated through experience in geriatrics, hospice care, home & community care, or hospital environments including Level I Trauma Centers or Level II Trauma Centers.
- Ability to perform complex patient care tasks such as catheter care, vital signs monitoring, and working with specialized equipment like Hoyer lifts or DME (Durable Medical Equipment).
- Experience supporting pediatric patients in PICU or outpatient clinics; working with children is highly valued.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient service; understanding of HIPAA compliance is essential.
