Role Summary and Strategic Impact
The Electropolishing Technician I is an entry-level production role responsible for preparing and finishing stainless steel components through sanding, deburring, cleaning, and other surface preparation activities. This position supports the electropolishing process by ensuring materials meet quality standards and are properly prepared for processing. The Electropolishing Technician I plays a critical role in the overall quality and efficiency of the electropolishing process. By properly preparing components and maintaining high standards of workmanship, this position helps reduce defects, minimize rework, improve production flow, and ensure customers receive high-quality finished products. The role directly supports operational excellence, workplace safety, and the company's commitment to delivering reliable, precision-finished components.
Core Responsibilities
Surface Preparation
- Sand and prepare stainless steel components prior to electropolishing.
- Remove scratches, weld discoloration, burrs, and other surface imperfections.
- Grind, smooth, and blend surfaces to achieve required finish specifications.
- Select appropriate abrasives, sanding discs, and finishing materials based on project requirements.
Quality Control & Inspection
- Inspect parts before and after sanding to verify surface quality and readiness for processing.
- Identify defects, inconsistencies, or damage that could impact the electropolishing process.
- Ensure finished surfaces meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Report quality concerns or non-conforming materials to supervisors.
Equipment & Tool Operation
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, sanders, and other finishing equipment.
- Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Notify supervisors of equipment malfunctions, repairs, or replacement needs.
Material Handling
- Move, stage, and organize materials and components throughout the production process.
- Handle parts carefully to prevent scratching, contamination, or damage.
- Maintain proper identification and organization of work-in-progress materials.
Safety & Housekeeping
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
- Properly dispose of waste materials and used abrasives according to company procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and immediately report unsafe conditions or incidents.
Teamwork & General Support
- Work collaboratively with production team members and supervisors to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Communicate effectively regarding production status, quality concerns, and material needs.
- Assist with electropolishing operations and other production-related tasks as assigned.
- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical training in manufacturing, metal finishing, machining, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Previous manufacturing, production, sanding, polishing, or general labor experience preferred. Experience using hand tools, power tools, grinders, and sanders preferred. Experience working with stainless steel components or metal fabrication environments preferred.
Technical Proficiency: Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and basic manufacturing equipment. Ability to read and follow work instructions and production specifications. Familiarity with measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Ability to follow detailed instructions and standardized procedures. Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn manufacturing processes. Ability to identify surface imperfections and quality concerns. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Effective verbal communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing production priorities and workload demands.
Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday. Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive hand movements. Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and other protective equipment. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
