What are the responsibilities and job description for the French-Speaking Toddler Teacher (Maternity Leave Coverage) – French Immersion Program, Greenpoint position at FFLO French Immersion LLC?
About Us
French for Little Ones (FFLO) is a small, close-knit French immersion program in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, serving children ages 2–4. We follow the French Éducation Nationale Cycle 1 curriculum blended with American play-based learning, in warm, small classrooms where every child is known and loved.
The Role
We're looking for a French-speaking Toddler Teacher to co-teach our 2's classroom (Toute Petite Section) alongside our director, transitioning into the lead role during a maternity leave coverage.
- September–November: Co-teach and train directly alongside our director, learning our classroom rhythms, curriculum, and the children themselves.
- Late November–February/March (approx. 3 months): Step into the lead role, becoming the primary, trusted face for the toddlers, who will be closely bonded with you during this time. Our director remains a reassuring point of contact for parents throughout, even while stepping back from daily classroom presence for her own leave.
- Return through June: Continue as co-teacher alongside our director through the end of the school year.
Toddlers are busy little people, their brains are working hard to learn about the world, how to communicate their needs, how to move their bodies, and how to build relationships. This role is at the heart of that journey, and at the heart of our classroom community.
Schedule
- Hours: 8:00am–2:00pm
- Start: Monday/Wednesday/Friday (18 hrs/week) as our program grows on a rolling admissions basis
- Expected transition: Monday–Friday (30 hrs/week) as enrollment fills, we are committed to this happening no later than January
- Term: September through June
Pay
- $24–$25/hr during the September–November co-teaching/training period
- $29/hr upon transition to full classroom lead (approx. December–February/March)
- Rate returns to co-teaching level upon director's return through June
What You'll Do
- Co-lead, then independently lead, the toddler classroom during the specified periods above
- Assist children with toileting (this happens multiple times a day, comfort with this is essential)
- Create and lead lessons (with support at first)
- Sing nursery songs, lead games, and plan playful, movement-based activities
- Build positive adult/child interactions using the CLASS method
- Ensure the education, health, welfare, and safety of children in the classroom
- Support children in navigating friendships and encourage positive behavior
- Serve as a warm, reliable point of contact for classroom parents during the lead period
Who We're Looking For

- Genuine love for toddlers and hands-on experience with children under 3
- Understanding of child development for the 24-month to 3-year range
