What are the responsibilities and job description for the Geochemistry Technician position at Fervo Energy?
Geochemistry Technician
Milford, UT
Description
The Geochemistry Technician will support the execution of geochemical monitoring and fluid sampling programs across Fervo's operating facilities. Reporting to the Geochemical Engineer, this role is responsible for collecting, handling, and processing geothermal fluid, gas, and water samples in the field; performing on-site analytical measurements; and maintaining the data integrity and documentation systems that underpin Fervo's geochemical program.
This role is field-forward. You will work directly on live flow streams at operating geothermal plants, execute established sampling protocols with precision, and flag anomalies that inform chemical treatment and corrosion management decisions. You are the hands and eyes of the geochemical program in the field.
Requirements
Responsibilities
Field Sampling & Fluid Characterization
Execute wellhead, pipeline, and facility fluid sampling programs for geothermal brine, condensate, non-condensable gases, and reinjection fluids in accordance with established SOPs
Perform on-site measurements including pH, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and flow parameters
Collect and properly preserve samples for off-site laboratory analysis, maintaining chain of custody and sample integrity
Operate and maintain field sampling equipment including two-phase separators, gas collection apparatus, and portable analytical instruments
Data Collection & Reporting
Maintain accurate field logs, sampling records, and chain-of-custody documentation for all geochemical activities
Enter field and laboratory data into tracking systems accurately and on schedule
Identify and escalate out-of-specification results or anomalous trends to the Geochemical Engineer
Support preparation of routine monitoring reports and data summaries
Chemical Treatment Support
Support on-site operation and monitoring of chemical injection systems including scale and corrosion inhibitor dosing
Assist with installation, retrieval, and evaluation of corrosion coupons and monitoring probes
Maintain chemical inventory records and support safe handling, storage, and disposal of treatment chemicals in compliance with site safety and environmental requirements
Cross-Functional Field Support
Coordinate sampling activities with plant operations to minimize interference with production
Support commissioning-phase geochemical baseline programs at new Fervo facilities
Assist the Geochemical Engineer with field execution of specialized sampling campaigns, equipment tests, and treatment trials
Required Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Geology, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience in a field chemistry or laboratory technician role
2+ years of experience in field sampling, water chemistry, or laboratory analysis in an industrial, energy, or environmental setting
Familiarity with chemical safety protocols, PPE requirements, and safe handling of corrosive or hazardous materials
Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and documentation discipline
Ability to work independently in a field environment and communicate clearly across technical and operational teams
Willingness to travel to Fervo plant sites; this is a field-forward role with regular site presence required
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with geothermal, oil and gas, or industrial process fluid sampling
Familiarity with brine chemistry, scaling indices, or corrosion monitoring programs
Experience operating chemical injection or inhibitor dosing systems
Exposure to geochemical modeling or laboratory analytical methods (ICP-MS, titration, ion chromatography)
