1800-0630 $3.75hr

JOB SUMMARY- The Hospital Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Ferry County Health in the absence of unit managers. They monitor and address, patient care, staffing, and other issues that arise. They collaborate with staff, providers, families, and patients. They ensure proper and timely documentation is completed. They communicate with the administrator when additional collaboration is needed for issues or concerns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Assess patient care requirements on each unit, by making rounds in the Emergency Department (ED), and all other areas of the hospital (according to departmental need/activity)
- Assess the acuity of care required by patient the patients
- Restock Pharmacy medication in Pyxis and notify Pharmacist of medications that need to be ordered.
- Ensure thorough and accurate documentation is being performed by nursing staff.
- Develop and implement staffing plan for shift based on patient acuity, patient census and available staff.
- Serve as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
- Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.
- Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to appropriate manager and director.
- Ensures all staff receive their timely breaks.
- Respond to emergency situations and assists as necessary.
- Act as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational problems-
- Anticipate actual/potential problems that may occur on their shift and sets shift priorities accordingly.
- Work collaboratively with nursing and ancillary staff to solve problems in a fair, consistent manner.
- Contact representatives of departments not presently in the hospital for assistance with problem solving, timely and appropriately.
- Act as a resource, interpret and ensure adherence to Ferry County Health policies and procedures.
- Report to the administrator-on-call significant incidents and problems such as:
- unusual patient or family problems or concerns
- physician concerns
- borrowing or lending of major equipment
- major damage or utility outages o security problems
- public relations or media events
- fire, disaster, bomb threats
- matters of legal importance
- calls received from the Health Department or any other regulatory body
- safety issues
- Ensure that WATRAK is being updated every shift.
- Learn Interqual and be able to enter admits.
- Review outpatient schedule and assist with OP visits.
- Is responsible for taking sick calls and transferring to sick line.
- Easy shift edits as needed.
- Being trained on length of stay requirements on ED OBS, Inpatient and Swing bed status.
- Responsible for ensuring Team Debriefs are done 5 mins after event of Code, Trauma,
- Ventilator Checks.
- Obtain materials/supplies from Central Supply for patient care when needed.
- Provide support, guidance and feedback to staff.
- Round on all inpatients each shift when possible to assess for needs and to gain feedback.
- Give ongoing timely feedback, verbal and written anecdotes, to staff on performance. Written anecdotes are passed on to the nurse manager or director to be used as part of performance evaluation.
- Contribute staff performance evaluations.
- Facilitate staff attendance at staff development sessions.
- Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to the Education Director
- Assist staff to interpret change in a positive manner.
- Assist staff to provide a safe work environment for patient care.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of the annual goals for the department.
- Consistently and independently follows established safety and infection control procedures. Intervenes in unsafe situations.
- Coordinate with Infection Preventionist for any infectious disease concerns.
- Meet or exceed expectations of individuals for whom service is provided.
- Assist physicians and Utilization RN with staff in admission criteria for assigning admission status to patients (observation/inpatient/swing)
- Ensure that narcotics in NSS are counted off at shift change, also check that patient home
narcotics in med room drawer are counted and signed off at shift change.
- Sunday NOC: Narcotic med count in Pyxis.
- Print off Outdate assignments and ensure they are being done the 25th-28th of each month.
- First of month glucometer checks: Glucometer control log and expiration dates of control
- Telemetry patients, save and clear alarms.
- Pass off report about dirty beds/rooms
- NSSB and Acute care MAR’s reviewed and no overdue meds or pain assessments.
- Register ED patients and perform basic HUC duties.
- Monitor documentation for adherence to Utilization rules and regulation.
- Have active listening skills and be non-judgmental
- Educate and encourage the professional growth of the floor nurses
- Monitor census and staffing. Place staff on call or call in additional resources as indicated. Track staff call rotation.
- Regular attendance of House Supervisor meetings.
- Dissemination of information to staff and ensuring adherence to unit policy and practice changes.
- Complete chart audits to ensure order completion and timely, accurate documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Fills out shift report.

- Attends at least 75% of staff meetings; reviews all monthly staff meeting minutes.
- Actively participates in the department’s quality improvement (QI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and the employee handbook.
- Communicates the mission, vision and values of the organization as well as the focus of the department.
- Meets dress code standards for the department; appearance is neat and clean.
- All Ferry County Health employees are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organizational policy, state and federal regulations, including not but limited to, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Washington Registered Nurse License upon hire.
- National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.
- ACLS, TNCC, PALS, NRP certifications within 6 month of hire.
- 1 year of Charge Nurse or leadership experience and demonstrated leadership abilities.
- This is a safety sensitive position and subject to RCW 49.44.240(3)(g).

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, patients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.
