The Senior Accountant will work under the direction of the Accounting Manager alongside a growing accounting and finance team that is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and reporting to Fern Rock Risk Partners, including both existing insurance agencies and future acquisitions.
This role provides financial and operational support to executive leadership through bookkeeping, payroll, banking, reconciliations, and financial reporting, while ensuring consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all assigned agencies.
In addition to day-to-day accounting responsibilities, the Senior Accountant will play an active role in developing, documenting, and reinforcing standardized accounting processes and best practices. This includes supporting internal controls, participating in audits and reviews, and applying policies related to internal operations and industry compliance.
As Fern Rock Risk Partners continues to grow through acquisition, this position will help ensure operational consistency across agencies by assisting with onboarding, training, and process alignment. Occasional travel may be required to support newly acquired agencies and collaborate with local teams on accounting procedures and workflows.
This position will report directly to the Accounting Manager.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate financial records and timely reporting for multiple insurance agencies under Fern Rock Risk Partners
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and complete assigned month-end close procedures
- Prepare financial statements and ad hoc reports for executive leadership and agency stakeholders
- Conduct general ledger reviews and maintain audit-ready records
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, including periodic variance analysis
- Assist with due diligence and pro forma financial modeling for acquisitions and strategic planning
- Manage accounts receivable and deposit posting
- Prepare carrier payables and vendor disbursements (via check or Ramp)
- Review, process, and reconcile monthly producer commissions
- Enter and reconcile direct bill commissions in agency management systems (EZLynx, AMS360)
- Support payroll processing and group benefits administration
- Maintain financial documentation and invoice records
- Prepare and submit weekly payroll files for approval, as needed
- Identify process improvements and contribute to SOP development and documentation
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to resolve financial questions and improve workflows
- Assist with onboarding of new agency acquisitions by supporting financial system setup and standardization
- Support year-end financial reporting, including income analysis, production reporting, and external audit prep
- Provide sales and production reports to agency executives and senior leadership
- Participate in internal training and cross-training initiatives aligned with departmental KPIs

Skills:
- Proficiency in accounting platforms, including NetSuite, QuickBooks, and agency management systems (e.g., EZLynx, AMS360)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and strong proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
- Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and internal control frameworks
- Ability to interpret and apply state, federal, and industry-specific compliance requirements in financial processes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving discrepancies and improving processes
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities; capable of managing multiple priorities in a team-based environment
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in insurance or professional services with multi-entity structures.
- Experience with agency management systems (e.g., Vertafore/AMS360, EZLynx, Applied Epic, or similar) is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, multi-stakeholder team
- Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to regional offices or newly acquired agencies as needed
- Openness to ongoing training, certifications, and process development to support company growth and evolving systems
