Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, tankers, roll-off trucks, dump trucks, and other specialized vehicles while adhering to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Transport freight efficiently across assigned routes, including over-the-road (OTR) driving routes, ensuring on-time deliveries.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or equipment such as forklifts when necessary; secure loads properly to prevent shifting during transit.
- Navigate using GPS navigation systems to follow optimal routes while adjusting plans based on traffic or road conditions.
- Comply with hazardous materials regulations when transporting dangerous goods or hazardous substances; ensure proper documentation and safety procedures are followed at all times.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections before and after trips; report any mechanical issues promptly to maintenance teams.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and inspection reports in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
Skills
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record and experience operating tractor-trailers in various environments.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for truck driving.
- Experience with refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, or similar equipment preferred.
- Proficiency in GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments during trips.
- Skilled in truck loading/unloading techniques including manual handling and forklift operation when applicable.
- Ability to handle hazardous or dangerous goods safely following all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, compliance, and customer service during delivery driving tasks.
- Physical stamina for manual handling tasks involved in freight management; capable of working long hours on over-the-road routes while maintaining alertness.
