Position:
Bilingual Legal Assistant
Job Summary:
Under supervision and direction of the attorneys and paralegals, support the management of firm operations and client casework to achieve providing exceptional client service while maximizing operational efficiency. The assigned areas of management focus are:
Office operations activities including:
- Answering phones
- Screening potential clients
- Analyzing practice management to provide clients updates and information about their cases
Basic legal assistant duties including:
- Handling and processing mail
- Completing and submitting forms and applications
Provide support and assistance to ensure:
- Clients receive the highest level of service.
- Cases progress in a timely manner and deadlines are met.
- Follow-up is conducted with clients and government agencies to keep all cases “current.”
Develop leadership abilities and willingly accept increased responsibility and tasks in assigned areas with the goal of either promotion within the firm or advancement of the candidate’s education or career.
Responsibilities:
- Interpreting and translating legal documents and client communication
- Communicating with clients in both English and Spanish
- Answering, screening, and directing calls
- Updating case management system
- Providing administrative support to attorneys, including scheduling appointments
- Drafting and preparing filings;
Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills such as typing and online internet research
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
Expectations:
Master each visa and process type and the nuances of each type of case. Over time, develop ability to take initiative and draft without direction, catching as many case and strategy tactics as possible.
Follow and understand filing procedures of various government agencies.
Keep abreast of changes in immigration laws and procedures and apply any new knowledge to current and future casework.
Foster positive working relationships with clients and government agencies and maintain a professional demeanor.
